Context:

Under the overall supervision of the Community Engagement Officer and direct supervision of the Senior Project Assistant, the incumbent will be responsible for supporting Community Engagement programmes within the area of responsibility as below context:
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Assist IOM Community Engagement outreach staff to communicate with Afghan evacuees at CAS, and vice versa, by interpreting accurately between Dari and/or Pashto and English during community Engagement activities.
2. Support the roll out of community engagement and resilience building activities tied to community Engagement plans.
3. Carry out written non-officialtranslations for the unit from English to Dari and/or Pashto (and vice versa), often working to a tight deadline with high standards of accuracy.
4. Maintain and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all relevant paperwork in line with standards of conduct and data protection rules.
5. Apply humanitarian principles in all duties, as well as a gender, age and diversity-sensitive approach in your daily activities with the community.
6. Assist with organizing and facilitating community meetings, workshops, focus group discussions to gather feedback, address concerns, and provide relevant information.
7. Schedule activities, facilitate youth mobilization, organize youth coaching and mentoring sessions in ways that allow for a transfer of skills and facilitate peer to peer knowledge generation.
8. Support Community Engagement staff in co-facilitating and interpretation at community gatherings or meetings.
9. Perform such other related duties as may be assigned
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with two (2) years of relevant professional experience, or
· Completed high school diploma with at least four (4) years of relevant experience.
Experience
· Experience working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment; and
· Prior interpretation and/or translation experience.
Skills
- Excellent knowledge and skills in interpretation between the target language(s);
- Demonstrated ability to draft and edit informal translations in the target language(s);
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multicultural setting.
- Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software packages; and
- Availability and flexibility to work beyond the normal working schedule and on day/evening/night shift duties.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto are required (oral and written).
DESIRABLE
Working knowledge Arabic is an added advantage.
