The Opportunity – Nurse (National consultancy)
Post location: Gaza Field Office – Deir al Balah – Subject to change depending on SC priorities
Contract Duration and Level of Effort: 3 months to be renewed
ROLE PURPOSE:
The nurse main role is to participate in providing quality of health care services at the Save the Children Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC). This role includes high quality of health care by ensuring triage, registration, vital signs measurement and dressing. He/she will be able to work under pressure, with high number of patients and under emergency situation.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Health Officer
Staff reporting to this post: None.
Role Dimensions: oPt CO is a high complexity country, multi-member interest, with an annual budget of around $40+m, and 100+ staff. Currently the program is experiencing a growth in funding and complexity due to the war in Gaza.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Antenatal Care:
- Conduct triage, registration of patients including checking and recording of vital signs, weight, height and nutritional status.
- Based on triage and assessment, prioritize health problems, consult with medical doctor and initiates effective emergency care if required.
- Provide direct nursing care to patients, including assessments, treatments, and follow-ups.
- Provide with minor procedures and wound care, dressing.
- Ensure immunization routine and participate to immunization campaign for children between 0-11 months.
- Monitor patient progress and respond to changes in their condition during the short observation
- In case of emergencies, ensure organization of the emergency room and adequate nursing care for the patients
- Closely work with nutrition team to conduct nutrition screening for under 5 years children and provision of nutrition services
- Recognizes and isolates suspected infectious diseases and report to Health Officer and medical doctor for referral and case investigation.
- Ensures cleanliness of work environment (including facility, equipment, and carrying out (non) medical waste disposal) in coordination with cleaners.
- Ensure accurate recording of information in the clinic registers, and completion of daily reports of clinical data
- Attends any learning and development opportunities.
- Complies with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures
- Ensure patient confidentiality is respected, and patient care is provided in a dignified and respectful manner
- promote a safe environment for patients, visitors and co-workers including implementation of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocol.
- Ensure and maintain all equipment, instruments and other supplies related to patient care.
- Ensure clinic areas are appropriately stocked with essential equipment and supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Registered nurse, qualified from recognized institution and registered with nursing council and licensed to practice in Gaza
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Essential
- At least 3 years of clinical experience and clinic management, registered and licensed to practice nursing
- Previous experience in primary health care setting and clinical infectious diseases and immunization
- Previous experience of working in isolation unit, strong understanding of infection prevention and control
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to motivate and support team in stressful situations.
Desirable
- Fluency in English
- Previous experience of working in role with MoH or Non-Governmental (NGO)
- Speak and understand local languages
- Command on MS Office
