About IsraAID:
IsraAID is an international non-governmental humanitarian aid organization based in Israel. Since we were founded in 2001, our teams have worked in emergency and long-term development settings in more than 60 countries around the world. In 2018, IsraAID opened its operations in Palorinya to respond to the South Sudan refugees in Palorinya Refugee Settlement. In 2023, it expanded its humanitarian relief activities to Nakivale Refugee Settlement to better address and respond to the needs of the refugees from Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and other countries.
About the Position
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Nutrition officer to join our team to implement our activities in Palorinya and Nakivale Refugee Settlements. The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, implementing, and monitoring Nutrition activities to ensure that Refugees and host communities live healthy lives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities
- Implementation of the nutrition response at IsraAID Uganda area of operations while ensuring adherence to the stipulated protocols.
- Implement a comprehensive Maternal Infant and Young Child nutrition Program
- Promote the implementation of breastfeeding program.
- Support capacity building for Community Outreach Workers through the identification of capacity gaps and supporting training.
- Prepare and deliver culture-sensitive awareness and educational nutritional messages to the community
- Conduct regular Mass screening for children under five in collaboration with Community Health Volunteers/Community Outreach Workers.
- Recognize, diagnose, and care for individuals suffering from malnutrition.
- Effectively and comprehensively implement appropriate referral pathways for malnutrition cases.
- Monitor the progress of patients who have been referred to nutrition management programs/ feeding programs.
- Develop, implement, and revise nutritional guidelines tailored for specific needs with a bias for cultural sensitivity.
- Compile and submit donor and IsraAID Nutrition program reports on a weekly, biweekly, and monthly basis of all implemented activities.
- Liaise with the Procurement Department in logistical program supplies, procurement, and monitoring of supply control.
- Monitor and review nutrition supplies and equipment movements such as deliveries, storage, transport, and utilization at the site level.
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Hold a Degree / Diploma in Food Nutrition and dietetics from a recognized institution.
- Minimum 4 years’ experience within an INGO/NGO in implementing community nutrition programs.
- Experience in Maternal infant and young child nutrition.
- Experience in nutrition survey and assessment
SKILLS
- Proven analytical, communication/ negotiation skills and ability to think strategically.
- Experience in report writing and excellent computer skills.
- Confident, flexible and positive personality
- Strong planning and implementation capacity
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT AND DEMANDS:
- Ability to work in hardship areas (previous experience in a camp setting will be an added advantage)
