Project Manager – Democratic Republic of Congo At Malteser International

In the Ituri, Haut Uélé and Bas Uélé Provinces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), MI has been providing humanitarian assistance since 2000, where MI carries out various projects in the areas of health, water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH), and food security.

For the management of our health project funded by the European Commission, we are looking for a Project Manager for the province of Kasaï Central, based in Kananga, Democratic Republic of Congo.

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for the overall coordination of the project and the implementation of project activities as described in the proposals, logical frameworks and activity plans. On the professional level, he or she will report to the Mahagi/Kananga Programme Coordinator and will work closely with other Project Managers, the support team and field staff in Kananga.

Your responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and technically control the implementation of all project activities in accordance with the objectives, indicators, work plan and approved budget.
  • Ensure regular and adequate documentation and reporting of the project according to the standards, rules and regulations of the donor and MI.
  • Lead the project team, ensure sound financial management, review and control the budget, as well as ensure the administration and logistical practices of the project.
  • Develop and implement appropriate monitoring tools for the project.
  • Represent MI with local authorities, partners and donors, in close coordination with the Mahagi/Kananga program coordinator and the country coordinator.
  • Monitor the security situation in the project area and ensure that personnel comply with security regulations.
  • Ensure operational management of the Kananga office.

Your profile:

  • University degree and/or technical/professional training in the field of health, humanitarian aid, development or a comparable field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in planning, implementing and managing humanitarian or development aid projects, with experience in the DRC being an asset.
  • Experience in security management, personnel management as well as accounting and budget management.
  • Knowledge of logistics procedures for purchasing, transport and inventory management, as well as the procedures of lessors (German, European, others).
  • Diplomacy and negotiation skills to deal with partners, authorities and institutions, as well as excellent ability to lead a team, work in a team and serve as a mediator.
  • Good command of French (oral and written) essential, knowledge of English desirable, German being an asset, as well as mastery of IT tools (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent ability to write illustrated documents and reports, a synthesis mind.
