The UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) has launched an exciting 5-year programme, PREVALE, aimed at boosting food productivity, building community resilience, and strengthening livelihoods in Afghan communities.

ROLE SUMMARY

The consortium of NGOs (Non-governmental Organizations) is seeking candidate for a Gender, Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) Lead who will provide support to the overall technical and strategic management related to Gender and Social Inclusion of this expected five-year PREVALE program in Afghanistan.

As the GESI Lead for CARE Afghanistan, you will be pivotal in integrating gender and social inclusion into all aspects of the PREVALE program and work closely with the Program Management Unit, technical leads, and local partners to ensure the successful delivery of GESI outcomes.

As a key member of the Program Management Unit (PMU), you will be responsible for the strategic management of GESI integration and activities and coordinate closely with implementation focal points. The person will work closely with other technical and thematic leads and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the consortium. The position is based in Kabul, with significant travel to areas of implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Planning:

  • Develop and implement the GESI strategy.
  • Ensure GESI principles are embedded in programme design, implementation, and evaluation.

Partnerships:

  • Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, and civil society organizations.
  • Support participatory GESI capacity assessments and capacity-building efforts.

Advocacy and Networking:

  • Represent PREVALE in GESI-related forums and networks.
  • Advocate for gender equality and social inclusion policies at national and local levels.

Capacity Building:

  • Provide technical support and training to staff and partners on GESI topics.
  • Develop strategies to integrate GESI into all programme activities.

Research and Knowledge Management:

  • Lead research on gender and social inclusion issues.
  • Document and disseminate best practices and lessons learned.

Programme Support:

  • Support GESI-sensitive targeting, activities, and monitoring.
  • Lead the evaluation of programme impact on GESI outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  2. At least 5 years of experience in designing, implementing, and monitoring GESI programmes in complex settings. Preferably in a similar context.
  3. Proven experience in program implementation in areas such as agriculture, livelihoods, women’s economic empowerment, and community engagement.
  4. Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  5. Fluency in English and Dari/Pashto is desired.
