The Logistics department plays a key role in ensuring logistic performance for the benefit of the programs conducted in the various project countries. The department consists of the Procurement Unit and the Field Support Unit. The Amsterdam Procurement Unit (APU) is responsible for processing the orders from some 26 project countries and delivering a wide assortment of medical and non-medical goods to the projects within the required timeframe. A part of the assortment is strategically held in stock while the rest is procured on an as need basis.

With immediate effect our Logistics department is looking for an enthusiastic new team member:

Operational Freight Officer (100%, 1 year)

– Based in Amsterdam –

Promoting an efficient procurement process of medical and non-medical goods for the projects with responsibility for a specific part of the order fulfilment process: from the moment goods are delivered to the warehouse or available for picking to landed at destination. This position is within the Amsterdam Procurement Unit (Logistics Department) and reports to the Team Leader Transport Team. The Transport Team consists of 10 colleagues.

Main objectives

As a team member of the Transport Team, you are responsible for preparing and releasing stock picks to the warehouse in cooperation with the Stock Managers. You are the one making sure that these actions are aligned with the import specifications of the country. This includes preparing cargo documents as per (import) requirements of the MSF project countries and assists with pre-clearance, including all related administration and follow-up. Furthermore:

  • Supporting the development of standard operating procedures and initiating improvement within area of expertise,
  • Acting as Focal Person for a number of assigned MSF project countries and giving advice to Logistical Coordinators.

Responsibilities and activities

Acting as a focal point for:

  • MSF projects in the field to conclude and record Service Level Agreements. Briefing and debriefing Logistic Coordinators,
  • Freight forwarders. Clarifying questions from the freight forwarders regarding outbound shipments and informing and advising the field and logistics service provider with regards to outbound transport planning.

Furthermore:

  • You give advice to the Logistic Coordinator and the Team Leader Transport Team about (structural) improvement of the supply chain, helping to develop standard operating procedures, informing and involving other internal stakeholders about transport issues,
  • Coordinate direct delivery transport to the project countries,
  • Checks and approves transport invoices and resolves issues,
  • Process and follow up on complaints in the framework of the Quality Management System,
  • Occasionally you might be requested to conduct a field visit in relation to a Service Level Agreement.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and reliable person with an MBO/HBO-level education in a commercial or logistical/operational direction or with comparable experience.

  • You furthermore are organized, service- and customer oriented and result driven, next to a team player with initiative taking and a good follow-up attitude.
  • You have worked at least 2 to 3 years in preparing and releasing stock picks, preparing cargo (air and ocean freight) and/or supply chain in high volume/small packages (medical and non-medical supplies).
  • Good communication skills and fluency in English (speech and writing) are essential.
  • Experience working in an international setting, fast-paced environment, multitasking and working with multiple deadlines.

Familiarity/working knowledge with systems like Microsoft Dynamics 365 and experience with other ERP systems such as SAP, Navision or Oracle is also considered a plus.

The selected candidate should be based in The Netherlands as this position is based in the Amsterdam Netherlands office. Relocation is not supported due to the nature of the position.

We Offer

A Dutch employment contract, with a preferred start date of as soon as possible. It is a one-year contract (temporarily position).

A gross monthly salary range between 3.223 and 4.437 euro depending on relevant work experience, based on a fulltime appointment.
