We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities
Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally.
Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen, and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities worldwide.
Summary job description
We are currently recruiting a full-time Senior Consultant to oversee the transition of Blue Ventures’ health portfolio, including establishing the Safidy programme and the People Health Environment (PHE) Network as independent entities. This role involves strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, organisational capacity building, and ensuring a smooth transition process that aligns with Blue Ventures’ mission and values.
The Senior Consultant will lead the process of splitting off our community health programme and health-environment learning network in Madagascar and establishing them as high-performing entities that can function entirely independently of Blue Ventures’ support. For nearly twenty years, Blue Ventures has pioneered a holistic approach to marine conservation that addresses the needs of communities alongside the threats facing ecosystems. The time has come to enable two of its most important legacies from this work, its award-winning community health programme (known locally as Safidy) and the internationally acclaimed PHE Network, to pursue their paths independent of Blue Ventures’ increasingly focused strategy.
Working with the global leadership and Madagascar leadership teams, the position will review and refine Blue Ventures’ initial plans for this independence process and oversee the separation and establishment of two new entities in Madagascar. This will involve agreeing to the terms of separation and ongoing collaboration, agreeing on the types of entity to be established, refining organisational structure and operating models, building the capacity of both entities, overseeing all necessary due diligence and legal processes, defining outcomes and milestones, maintaining good communication with all stakeholders
and overseeing/reporting on progress.
