CDAC Network is the global alliance of organisations working to ensure people can access safe, trustworthy information and communicate during crises. Members are committed to meaningful community engagement and greater accountability to people affected by crises. Our network brings together UN agencies, the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, local and international NGOs, media development and specialist communications entities. The CDAC Secretariat are a fully remote team that currently uses MS teams and Zoom for day-to-day communication, and a range of digital tools including Asana, Miro, and Google Workspace. We work flexibly with face-to-face meetings arranged quarterly.

Role purpose

We have developed various workstreams and projects over the last year, responding to shifts in crises contexts, and we have created lots of new connections, opportunities, and strategic partnerships. We are now looking for a strategic digital and comms expert to work with us over this period to help the Secretariat make the most of our assets, in line with our values and the refreshed CDAC Network Strategy.

What we’re looking for:

Individuals with expertise in using communications and influencing to create effective social change. You’ll be used to working in a small team with the ability to move between strategic decisions and hands-on delivery and have experience of delivering complex messages in ways that appeal to general audiences. You’ll be digitally savvy, with excellent sector and media contacts, and have existing connections within the aid and/or emerging tech policy ecosystem. Ideally, you’d be ready to start work asap.

Key areas of responsibility

The role is focused on strategic communications, advocacy, digital communications, and brand management. You will play a central role in narrating the CDAC story and enhancing the Network’s visibility, as well as fostering strong, collaborative relationships with CDAC member organisations by developing and delivering effective member engagement strategies. The role requires a strategic approach to digital communications and brand management, ensuring a dynamic, and cohesive presence across CDAC’s digital platforms.

You will support CDAC’s advocacy efforts, crafting compelling messaging to promote the Network’s priorities and values, while managing communication-related projects and representing CDAC in both internal and external forums. You will also oversee the design and planning of CDAC’s Annual Reporting, and contribute to key events and convenings, including the General Assembly and Public Forum. While the work will vary and be led by member demands and strategic opportunities, we will certainly need you to:

  1. Amplify our existing content and improve our digital presence, building upon the internal review of communications and digital recently completed.
  2. Oversee multimedia content development, production, and distribution of publications and translations, for timely and well-coordinated release of findings.
  3. Develop an influencing schedule to accompany our strategy refresh that builds on CDAC Network member activities, our projects, events, and conference presence.
  4. Guide strategic content creation and commissioning prospects, including building a plan to extend our reach and engagement to strengthen the Network’s impact.

Person specification

Essential

  • Commitment to CDAC Network’s mission and values.
  • At least 8 years of experience in communications, with degree, or equivalent, qualification in relevant field (e.g. comms, public relations, or media.)
  • Demonstrable skills in digital engagement, content creation and visual storytelling; managing websites and digital platforms.
  • Fluent in English with exceptional writing, editing and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to convene and engage stakeholders across diverse contexts.

Desired

  • Video editing software and design software skills, e.g. Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • An understanding of how communication with affected communities is evolving in humanitarian policy and practice, particularly as it relates to digital technologies.
  • Experience with fundraising, pitching, partnership building or project management.
  • Proficiency in a second language
