Introduction.

Médicos del Mundo Asociación Civil (MdM) is implementing several activities to help strengthen local health institutions and organizations that serve the most vulnerable populations in Venezuela.

The focus of our activities in Venezuela

MDM has been addressing humanitarian needs in Venezuela since 2019. The organization focuses on an integrated approach to health, nutrition, and mental health and psychosocial protection (MHPSS). MDM coordinates its programs within the humanitarian cluster system and works in collaboration with national and international NGOs. Projects are implemented in highly populated vulnerable urban areas, as well as in hard-to-reach rural and indigenous communities. The organization is growing and expanding its donor base, sectors of intervention, and areas of implementation, with the aim of improving the quality of its programming.

General Mission

General Objective

The position aims to contribute to the incorporation of the human rights-based gender approach, anthropological approach and gender-based violence (GBV) approach in the projects and programs of Doctors of the World in Venezuela; promoting the right to health of the population through the implementation and evaluation of actions that consider the social and gender determinants of health.

Doctors of the World headquarters in Caracas, Venezuela, with trips to the MDM base.

He/she will work under the technical supervision of the Program Coordination and together with the entire Doctors of the World team on the ground to achieve the objectives.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  1. Actively participate in supporting the implementation of projects, ensuring the incorporation of cross-cutting approaches (human rights-based and intersectional gender approach, anthropological approach and gender violence) in the planned activities and guaranteeing their adaptation to the contexts.
  2. Ensure that the monitoring and follow-up system collects data by gender, age, ethnicity and disability in the intervention states.
  3. Ensure the implementation of participation mechanisms (aimed at the most vulnerable groups) and leadership (with emphasis on female community leaders) in the intervention states.
  4. Ensure that the diverse beliefs, values ​​and cultural practices related to the health of the Pumé (Apure) and Warao (Sucre) indigenous communities are addressed, recognized and respected, and that their local leaders and traditional authorities are involved in the implementation of the activities.
  5. Ensure that community-level health promotion activities are designed from a gender and intersectional perspective, culturally appropriate and accessible to people with functional diversity.
  6. Ensure technical training of MDM teams in cross-cutting approaches, providing support when necessary and ensuring a proactive and constant flow of communication.
  7. Supervise training for health professionals in clinical care for survivors of VdG and Sexual Violence, including a transversal component, which addresses the incorporation of the intersectional gender perspective in health and cultural adaptation in care
  8. Design and supervise the training and support processes for community leaders and civil society on GBV and awareness-raising sessions on mitigation and prevention of GBV in communities, CAPS and community centers.
  9. Support in the process of establishing Community Complaints and Feedback Mechanisms (MCQR), including SEAH complaints
  10. Represent and participate in the AdR and VBG spaces in which MdM is summoned.
  11. Advise and propose actions so that MDM’s actions in Venezuela are aligned with international strategies, conventions and protocols on human rights, women’s human rights, DSDR, VdG and the rights of people with functional diversity and LGBTIQ+ people.
  12. Collect new reports, legislation, policies or commitments on feminism, gender, DSDR, GBV, etc.
  13. Complete the sections corresponding to the cross-cutting approaches of the reports and documents for returning results in accordance with the donor’s requirements.
  14. Monitor the application of MdM Venezuela’s cross-cutting approach tools, reporting progress and challenges in their implementation in the internal monitoring report.
  15. Identify and compile lessons learned and good practices from projects within the framework of mainstreaming cross-cutting approaches, based on evidence (knowledge management).
  16. Lead the identification of women’s and/or feminist organizations and other civil society actors (LGBTIQ+ community, functional diversity, etc.), who work within the framework of the DSDR/VdG, to generate alliances.
  17. Participate in the planned activities, within the framework of the complementary work agreement, in the areas of protection, legal assistance to victims of GBV, prevention and response to trafficking.

Required profile

Required skills and knowledge

Training

  • Degree/bachelor’s degree in social and/or health sciences.
  • Specific training in incorporation, analysis and integration of the gender and intersectionality perspective from a feminist approach in projects and programs.
  • Specific training in GBV and knowledge of international standards and guidelines on GBV prevention and response in humanitarian contexts.
  • Specialized training in protection, public health and humanitarian aid.
  • Training in anthropological approach to health, community health, participatory methodologies.

ProfessionalExperience

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant prior experience related to the position in an NGO (desirable).
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, from transversal approaches in health projects in humanitarian contexts.
  • Experience in direct management of GBV projects or programmes in the field and in GBV training.

Software

  • Good knowledge of MS office software – Including Word, Excel and Outlook, OneDrive, Sharepoint
