Position Title: Project Officer

Reporting to: Program Manager – WASH
Background
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
Job Summary
The WASH Program aims to address the long-term water security and access issues in these regions. The main responsibilities will be to help direct behavior change strategies that are pertinent to WASH program.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement activities according to international WASH standards, SPHERE, and SP project cycle management tools & WASH technical strategies;
- Identify, mobilize and sensitize communities and institutions on participatory hygiene and sanitation transformation and health and hygiene education;
- Promote safe WASH practices, including appropriate use and maintenance of WASH facilities and services;
- Ensure appropriate community involvement in the design and delivery of essential WASH services and facilities;
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with community leaders;
- Complete weekly and monthly reports on progress against objectives;
- Train and manage community volunteers or other hygiene outreach workers;
- Liaise with the project staff to carry out awareness days and ensure linkage to other Samaritan’s Purse projects;
- Comply with all laid down Samaritan’s Purse policies and procedures;
- Attend morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the Samaritan’s Purse ministry;
- Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public;
- Performing any other related duties as assigned and carrying out responsibilities with regards to Samaritan’s Purse mission statement.
Education / Experience Needed
- Degree/Diploma in Public/Environmental/Community Health or a related field;
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in either relief or development including implementation of community-based WASH projects with evidence of successful implementation of similar projects;
- Experience in supervising and coordinating trainings;
- Ability to work with culturally diverse groups of people;
- Ability to travel and work in difficult conditions and under pressure;
- Excellent spoken and written English language skills
Skills Required
- Knowledge of participatory approaches, especially PHAST;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Being a strong team player and adept at creating a strong team spirit;
- Proven ability to work creatively and independently in the field;
- Other skills (technical, professional, language, etc.)
