Job Description

SNV is seeking an enthusiastic, hands-on Global Accounting Consultant who will support the Global accounting team with improving the accounting processes.

  • Based in The Hague, Netherlands
  • Duration: 6-7 months, starting in January 2025
  • 40 hours a week

As theGlobal Accounting Consultantyou will be part of the global accounting support team (approx. 5-6 FTEs), finance department, located in The Hague, the Netherlands. The global accounting team is responsible for driving continuous improvements to SNV’s financial accounting, administration and reporting, ensuring compliance with the donor, regulatory, and SNV requirements and producing integer, transparent, complete and accurate financial data. Therefore, the team develops, implements, and maintains the financial policies and procedures, as well as monitors and improves the processes for accounting and administration in SNV’s ERP system {SAP Business by Design (SBD)} in compliance with the Dutch General Accounting Principles. This includes the chart of accounts, the accounting processes related to purchase -to-pay, order-to-cash, and record-to-report processes.

The global accounting team:

  • Supports country’ and project’ finance teams with the implementation and execution of daily financial accounting activities and processes, and financial reporting.
  • Guides and coaches, the country finance teams in periodic closings of their financial accounting records, performs the financial checks, and reviews the balances after the monthly close, extensive closes and year-end close.
  • Provides advice on issues relating to project audits, minimising ineligible costs.
  • Drives capacity building of country finance teams by trainings, support, review, feedback, etc.
  • Identifies and proposes solutions to solve (potential) financial risks as well as ensures learning and feedback on relevant issues throughout the accounting cycle and across the organisation with a view to continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates the global audit of all 20+ countries and consolidates the annual accounts of SNV.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse financial data and provide accurate and timely financial reports required. This includes carrying out monthly, extensive and year-end close assessments and performing completeness check for all transactions and reconciliations if needed. Follow up with the Country Finance Managers on the findings or outstanding items during such reviews.
  • Review the financial balances of the assigned countries and take supporting/corrective actions if needed. Carry out balance sheet clearing, data quality assessments and improvement initiatives.
  • Support the global audit process by providing audit deliverables on time and of a good quality, as well as by reviewing the country deliverables and instructing, coaching the countries upon request and if necessary.
  • Clear historical intercompany transactions, improve intercompany reconciliation file, and prepare work instruction for the approach going forward.
  • Train and support designated countries to implement the automatic WHT and VAT runs.
  • Update of SBD reports (revision of reports to use; update on naming, description of the purpose of reports).
  • Train and support designated countries to implement the automatic invoice scanning.
  • Identify gaps and propose improvements in the financial administration, accounting, and reporting processes. Carry out activities aimed at achieving efficiency.

Qualifications

What you will bring:

  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent by experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant and demonstrable experience in accounting.
  • Solid expertise in periodic close and financial reporting processes of group companies; knowledge of accounting standards (SNV applies for group financial statements Dutch GAAP); financial statements preparation and hands on experience with underlying accounting processes (order to cash, purchase to pay, etc).
  • Experience with reviewing/making payments, GL accounting and monthly close process, including clearing of balance sheet items.
  • Analytical and conceptual thinking skills. Pro-active, pragmatic and solution driven.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and prioritise. Team player, good facilitator, excellent communicator also in multi-cultural settings.
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is an added advantage.
  • Working experience with IT financial systems; SAP Business by Design is preferred.
  • Proven cultural awareness while working in an international setting.
