PURPOSE

The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for supporting the accurate and efficient accounting of treasury transactions and insurance-related activities. This role ensures compliance with internal accounting procedures and oversees the preparation and posting of regular accounting entries, reconciliations, and closing activities on a monthly and annual basis. S/he plays a key role in managing statutory accounts, overseeing bank reconciliations, and maintaining the accuracy and completeness of general ledger data.

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Internally, interacts with the Accounting Manager or Finance and Administration Manager of the delegation/structure and with “clients” from other departments.
  • Externally, interacts mainly with a network of relevant partners.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

S/he works with a team under the ICRC Financial Shared Services, that primarily:

  • Perform monthly and annual accounting tasks for treasury, including reconciliations and ledger management.
  • Oversee statutory accounts from a treasury perspective, ensuring accurate reporting, fair value entries, and compliance with closing deadlines.
  • Execute daily bank reconciliations, resolve discrepancies, and securely archive transaction documentation.
  • Manage and analyze insurance transactions, ensuring timely processing of claims and insurance premiums.
  • Coordinate with IT and maintain the insurance database, ensuring accurate access and data integrity.
  • Conduct regular integrity checks and support audit preparation by maintaining organized records.
  • Collaborate with the AXA representative for oversight of property insurance claims and coordinate necessary reporting.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Experience in general and financial accounting
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (Peoplesoft, JD Edwards)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
