About the role

Within the framework of the Nutrition International’s (NI), the Senior Program Officer – Child Health Nutrition, will contribute to improving child health and nutrition in Sahel by supporting Sahel countries implement effective, integrated and sustainable child survival program including Infant and Young Child Nutrition interventions.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Sahel Director to ensure that the landscape analysis for child health and nutrition interventions are regularly updated and available for the design of project plans and proposals.
  • Develop annual workplans and budgets for VAS and Zinc interventions.
  • Ensure work plan activities are implemented as scheduled and per the approved budgets.
  • Carry out site monitoring visits to ensure that implementing partners are implementing project activities according to agreed strategy and contractual commitments.
  • Ensure data monitoring plans are implemented timely, project monitoring data is collected, and the data workbooks are regularly updated.
  • Build and maintain good collaborative relations with MoH, other government agencies, UN agencies and NGO, as appropriate to promote information sharing and effective coordination of effort to improve and sustain effective and efficient programs.
  • Represent NI at national and regional fora relevant to VAS and Zinc intervention.
  • Keep up to date with the developments in child health and micronutrients supplementation issues.
  • Participate in the design of research and evaluation activities for VAS and Zinc projects and work closely with researchers and external evaluators to ensure research and evaluations exercise are feasible, respond to project and MoH needs.
  • Support timely dissemination of research and program evaluation findings in Sahel and elsewhere with the view to informing others on available new information and improved practices for VAS and Zinc interventions.
  • Any other related duties as requested.

About You

You have:

  • Master’s degree or higher level with a focus on either Public Health, Nutrition, Food Sciences, Child Health, Clinical Medicine, Community Health.
  • Training in Epidemiology and Research methodologies.
  • At least 10 years of experience working in Child Health or related fields in Sahel or the Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • At least 5 years of experience in supervising Child Health, Nutrition programs.
  • At least 5 years of experience in donor funded program/project implementation/supervision, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Experience micronutrient supplementation programs for children is desirable.
  • Experience and good understanding of West Africa regional food fortification programs.
  • Experience working across and within sectors as a means of optimizing program performance.
  • Experience working with large multi-stakeholder teams and ability to participate in and coordinate across diverse teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills with ability to stick to tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently under fast-paced, complex, and dynamic working conditions.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and French is essential.
