KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Provide overall technical direction for project interventions in the areas of maternal and child health, family planning, nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and health systems strengthening.
- Ensure that the project is aligned with USAID’s objectives and delivered in compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate closely with the COP to provide technical expertise and develop innovative approaches to address Guatemala’s health challenges.
- Design and regularly update detailed annual work plans and ensure these are used by the team appropriately to monitor progress towards completion and achievement of program objectives.
- Recruit, manage and motivate staff to achieve their work plan objectives, and to contribute to the achievement of the overall program goals.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with officials, government ministries, implementing partners as well as the international and local NGO community.
- Work with program staff and Save the Children Technical Advisors based in the country office to identify the technical support needs of the program and ensure this support is provided.
- Stay abreast of current trends, research, and innovations in the fields of health service delivery to enhance program effectiveness.
- Oversee the monitoring of project performance, ensuring that timelines and objectives are met, and adjust strategies as necessary based on data-driven insights.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- University degree in public health, health administration, international development, or other relevant field required. Graduate degree preferred.
- 6-8 years of senior-level management of health programs, particularly USAID-funded projects.
- Technical experience and expertise in maternal and child health, family planning, nutrition, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and health systems strengthening.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience recruiting, developing, and managing staff and teams.
- Demonstrated skills building and maintaining relationships with host governments, donors, other donor-funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and partners.
- Fluency in Spanish and English required.
- Experience implementing development programming in Guatemala and/or Latin America.
- Experience with participatory community-led approaches to project design and implementation.
- Experience with adaptive management and learning and reflection-based programming approaches.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent demonstrated inter-cultural, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Experience overseeing M&E systems for donor-funded projects.
- Commitment to child rights and to the aims and objectives of Save the Children.
