ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the humanitarian organization that saves and changes lives, providing food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

For its efforts to combat hunger, its contribution to improving peace conditions in conflict-affected areas and acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020.

WFP has been present in Ecuador since 1964, as an innovative partner that supports government policies to promote food and nutritional security, gender equality and food sovereignty, directing its actions to support the most vulnerable populations.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Under the supervision of the Head of the Programme Unit, the selected individual will work in the area of ​​Protection and Gender, as a Programme Associate. The individual will provide effective specialist support and conduct technical analysis on policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (indicative and non-exhaustive list)

1. Provide technical support and assistance in the development and implementation of various processes and activities within its specific area of ​​activity, supporting alignment with broader programme policies and guidelines.

2. Provide specialized project management support to specific programmes to ensure that the various activities are carried out taking into account established goals and applying WFP policies and procedures.

3. Within the specific area of ​​responsibility, prepare a range of reports and data analyses (e.g. on food assistance needs, resource utilization, programme progress or outputs) and highlight trends and problem areas, ensuring that measurable results adhere to organizational standards and pass quality control.

4. Carry out (or ensure that) thorough and timely data recording is carried out within the relevant technical area of ​​activity (e.g. assistance programmes or food security and vulnerability analysis), ensuring consistency of information presented to stakeholders.

5. Maintain contact with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing project activities.

6. Coordinate and communicate with partners, agencies, NGOs and public institutions at the local level to conduct thorough analyses of the food security situation and ensure efficient delivery of food assistance.

7. Provide support to strengthen the capacity of WFP staff, cooperating partners and the national Government in the specific technical area concerned.

8. Serve as a point of contact for the resolution of a wide range of operational queries and problems within a given technical area of ​​responsibility.

9. Supervise and/or review the work of other support staff, providing practical advice and guidance, to help achieve objectives in accordance with agreed standards and timelines.

10. Follow standard emergency preparedness practices to ensure that WFP is able to respond quickly and deploy necessary resources to affected areas at the onset of a crisis.

MINIMUM STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education: Completion of secondary education. Post-secondary education certificate in the corresponding field of operation.

Experience: Six or more years of progressive professional experience related to the functional scope of the position.

Languages: Fluent in Spanish. Intermediate in English.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE TO PERFORM THIS FUNCTION

. Having worked with technical teams (e.g. nutrition, vulnerability analysis and mapping (VAM), etc.).

. Having contributed to the implementation of programs.

. Having attended various policy debates as an observer, or having helped with their organisation.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Contract Type: Fixed Term G6.

Place of Work: Quito, Ecuador.

Contract Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension.

The position is open to Ecuadorian citizens and foreigners with a work permit in Ecuador.
