ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the humanitarian organization that saves and changes lives, providing food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.
For its efforts to combat hunger, its contribution to improving peace conditions in conflict-affected areas and acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2020.
WFP has been present in Ecuador since 1964, as an innovative partner that supports government policies to promote food and nutritional security, gender equality and food sovereignty, directing its actions to support the most vulnerable populations.
WFP’s Country Strategic Plan 2023-2027 focuses on ensuring access to food before, during and immediately after emergencies, disasters and protracted crises; ending malnutrition, especially chronic child malnutrition; achieving food security and advancing towards the consolidation of sustainable, equitable and inclusive food systems, while improving resilience to the effects of climate change; and providing services that support the operations of government institutions and humanitarian partners (More information at https://es.wfp.org/paises/ecuador ).
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The incumbent will carry out specialized communication activities and contribute to the development of communication products/services and campaigns that maintain and enhance WFP’s visibility and reputation, and will also support fundraising activities.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES (indicative and non-exhaustive list)
1. Coordinate and execute specialized communication activities and processes, in order to support the timely preparation and execution of communication campaigns for target audiences.
2. Liaise with the media and other key stakeholders, providing and facilitating a regular flow of information and messages to primary audiences on WFP activities, policies and operations.
3. Coordinate event planning and make recommendations, ensuring that appropriate services, equipment, plans and materials are in place.
4. Provide substantive specialized support, coordination and recommendations that ensure the efficient production of video, film, photography and radio projects.
5. Closely monitor traditional and social media and communicate relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communication activities and strategies.
6. Prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks to enhance coverage and support for WFP activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
7. Conduct research, make recommendations and assist in the development of content used on traditional and social media platforms and networks to improve the reach and support of WFP activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness and consistency with corporate messages.
8. Promote and provide advice on communication guidelines to ensure that key policies and procedures are implemented.
9. Ensure that relevant information is collected and retained (either by oneself or by delegating the task) in appropriate databases and files, so that accurate records are available and accessible to others.
10. Manage a wide range of day-to-day issues and requests for information from internal and external stakeholders, drawing on specialized knowledge to respond to them in a timely and appropriate manner.
11. Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to keep them informed of important information and implement harmonized and consistent communication processes and activities.
12. Contribute to the development of communication methods and processes in order to improve their effectiveness and raise awareness among the media and stakeholders about the work of WFP.
OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Proactively develop a portfolio of partnerships, including partner profiling and outreach activities, with the aim of maximizing resources and leveraging technical and policy support for WFP’s work; support partner visibility and ensure partner conditions are met.
2. Collect and present internal and external data and information, using key information systems (e.g. Salesforce, WINGS, WFPgo), to support WFP’s effective positioning vis-à-vis national governments
MINIMUM STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education: Completion of secondary education. Post-secondary education certificate in the corresponding functional field.
Experience: Seven or more years of professional experience related to the functional sphere of the position.
Languages: Fluent in Spanish. Advanced in English.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE TO PERFORM THIS FUNCTION
. Have demonstrated a thorough understanding of communication and alliance techniques and activities and knowledge of the socio-political context in which the Program operates in its daily work.
. Provided personalized guidance or training to new staff members working in their area of expertise.

Contract Duration: 12 months with possibility of extension.
The position is open to Ecuadorian citizens and foreigners with a work permit in Ecuador.
