As the German Red Cross (DRK), it is our job to be there for people and to help them – solely according to the extent of their need. In the DRK General Secretariat in Berlin, you will help shape the future direction of the DRK eV as the national Red Cross Society and leading association of the independent welfare sector. Every day, you will help ensure that people in Germany and around the world receive help – solely based on their level of need.
We are looking for you as a Country Officer for Latin America (m/f/d) as soon as possible.
The position is anchored in the exciting environment of the German Red Cross’s international cooperation and is assigned to the team for programs and cooperation with sister societies. The team is responsible for the operational cooperation of the German Red Cross with its sister societies abroad. You are responsible for the Latin America country portfolio with a focus on Colombia and Venezuela.
The employment is full-time (39 hours/week). The employment offer is initially limited to 1 year (substitute position), with the option of an extension.
Your tasks:
- Project management: You are responsible for the strategic management and quality control of our international projects in specific countries in Latin America. Your tasks include project reports, financial and personnel administration, procurement and tenders. You ensure that objectives are achieved and mobilize the necessary resources in the DRK.
- Team leadership and collaboration: You will provide technical leadership to the colleagues assigned to you in our foreign offices and constantly link them with the technical support offered by our sister teams in the area of international cooperation.
- Crisis and disaster management: In the event of a crisis or disaster, you develop emergency aid projects that support the work of sister societies and other components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in action – if necessary, also in countries without an active Red Cross presence.
- Humanitarian analysis and security management: You monitor political and humanitarian developments in the countries for which you are responsible and prepare analyses, status reports and reports. You manage the risks and security for your colleagues in your country portfolio and ensure communication in the event of security incidents.
- Dialogue with donors and fundraising: You are in regular contact with the donors in your country portfolio. You support the development of new donors and participate in presentations, public events and media contributions.
We expect:
- Relevant university/technical college degree.
- Sound knowledge and work experience in project management (PCM) in a humanitarian or development-oriented context as well as in project implementation with donors (e.g. ECHO, AA, BMZ, EU).
- Knowledge of or initial experience with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement desirable
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- High self-motivation and stress management.
- Willingness to travel abroad.
