The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), established in 1911, is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit international organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants.
About USCRI’s Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean
In 2024, Diálogo Intercultural Mexicano (DIME A.C.) was absorbed by USCRI. As the newly established Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, it oversees USCRI operations in Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras.
Communication
The Communication area is responsible for developing and applying institutional identity by creating audiovisual products within the organization and addressing the communication needs of all other programs and areas. Additionally, the Communication area deploys the Habesha Media program, which serves as a creative agency. As such, Habesha Media designs and develops high-quality, audiovisual products, such as animation, web, editorial, and graphic design services for like-minded institutions and organizations in the fields of education and human rights.
Communications Intern
The primary mission of the intern in the Communications area is to support the area in following, implementing and expanding the organization’s communication strategy by actively supporting community management and social media content creation, helping with various logistics and administrative tasks and enriching the area with a new set of skills, ideas and a fresh perspective.
Key responsibilities
- Assist on the creation of various audiovisual products (awareness videos, podcasts, reports, documentaries, graphic design, etc.) and being involved in the planning, shooting, production, post-production and editing phases.
- Produce photography and audiovisual content to document and share USCRI LAC activities and events on social media.
- Assist the Coordinator in the creation of various communication products and strategies. • Assist on social media content creation and management.
- Assist the Strategic Development and Engagement area on the creation of applications and quotations for Habesha Media.
- More specific activities to be determined depending on individual skills and interests.
Profile
- Completed Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in Public Relations, Media Studies, Communications, Design, International Relations, Social Sciences, or related studies.
- Master’s degree is desirable but not essential.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in work, volunteer, or internship roles within organizations or areas related to migration, human rights, or vulnerable populations is desirable.
- Excellent skills in video and/or design software is desirable but not essential.
- Effective communication and active listening.
- Excellent ability for objective analysis and attention to detail.
- Planning and organizational skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Writing skills.
- Sensitivity towards other cultures.
- Motivation and commitment to our organization’s mission and programs.
- Relevant coursework or specialization in fields such as digital communication, social media management, public relations, writing, graphic design, multimedia production, and communication strategies desirable.
- Experience or familiarity with content creation, including writing for social media, blogs, and newsletters, or producing multimedia content like videos desirable.
Internship Specifications
- Full-time, in the city of Aguascalientes, Mexico.
- No salary, but small monthly compensation (2,000 MXN) and housing provided.
- Medical coverage or international student insurance is required.
