SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association that, for over 40 years, has been providing
assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting their vital needs: drinking, eating, and shelter. Particularly committed to combating diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI implements through its interventions expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and the promotion of hygiene, but also in the essential field of food security and livelihoods. Present in around twenty countries, SI teams – 2,000 people in total, made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.
The primary mission of the Ethics and Internal Audit department is to provide assurance to managers on how the structure protects itself from assessed risks by equipping itself with a thoughtful, effective and formalized system for controlling its activity and to formulate recommendations to strengthen its effectiveness. This purpose is served by a wide range of expertise and responsibilities, guaranteed by the independence of the department. The department is also responsible for the organization’s ethical guidelines and, among other things, ensures the management of professional alert mechanisms.
Reporting to the head of the Ethics and Internal Audit department (SEAI), the department assistant will work closely with the two department representatives (Anti-Abuse Representative and Internal Audit Representative) in their daily tasks.
Through 6 essential pillars of the service: internal audit, internal control, classification and archiving, risk management and prevention/treatment of abuse, he/she (non-exhaustive list):
- Participates in ongoing projects led by the SEAI service teams, including but not limited to: review of internal standards and tools dedicated to the prevention and processing of reports of abusive behavior, establishment of methodologies and tools for due diligence exercises of implementing partners, establishment of systems and tools for monitoring recommendations, etc.
- Assists in the review of internal control tools and participates in certain spot check exercises
- Participates in the organization of events, training, briefings and may be required to lead internal communications actions
- Support for monitoring reports of abusive behavior
- Participation in the due diligence processes of implementing partners
IF YOU WILL OFFER THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS
- Internship based at the SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL headquarters in Clichy (92), Mairie de Clichy metro station
- Intern with mandatory internship agreement.
- Compensation: 4.90 euros/hour
- The gratuity is calculated in proportion to the actual hours of presence during the month. (On average 1 month = 154 hours, or 22 days of 7 hours/day)
- Public transport covered 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL
- Meal vouchers at €8.90/day of actual training, with 60% participation from SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL
The tasks to be performed are cross-functional and therefore require autonomy, rigor and versatility. Knowledge, or at least a desire to understand the humanitarian environment and its constraints is essential.
The tasks described in this announcement are likely to evolve depending on the projects underway in the department as well as the needs of managers.
SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL is committed to offering the intern a variety of tasks as well as internal training in preparation for departure, allowing him to usefully strengthen his training/experience with a view to a future humanitarian commitment. This internship is an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of how a humanitarian NGO works, its constraints and the different approaches.
Education and experience:
- Higher education in the field of international relations and solidarity appreciated or any appropriate training meeting the required skills (internal audit, law, etc.)
Required skills:
- Strong writing skills in both French and English, advanced writing and synthesis skills in French
- Fluent French and English required
- Interest in the fields of ethics and internal auditing,
- Layout, graphic design and visual design skills
- Sensitive to the quality approach in the implementation of programs
Required qualities:
- Real interest and motivation for community and humanitarian work
- Critical thinking and ability to propose, rigor
- Adaptability, autonomy and responsiveness (several files to follow at the same time)
- Comfortable using IT tools, particularly the Microsoft 365 environment (Word, Excel, Power Point, Sharepoint, Access, Publisher, etc.)
- Interpersonal skills, stress management and availability
