UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering an internship within the Education Section in our Copenhagen Headquarters in Denmark.

As a member of the Education Section, the selected individual would have the opportunity to help support ground-breaking programmes that help enable education access for refugees around the world.
UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. Every year, millions of women, men and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution. We are in over 130 countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions.
Operational Context
Education is an integral part of protection for persons of concern to UNHCR, over 40% of whom are children. The Division of Resilience and Solutions (DRS), in close collaboration with the Regional Bureaus, the Division of Strategic Planning and Results (DSPR) and the Division of International Protection (DIP), is working on an integrated and holistic approach to support UNHCR operations and partners in implementing policies and guidelines on education, children, age, gender and diversity mainstreaming, community-based protection and solutions. In support of this, DRS provides operational support, policy direction, and strategic guidance to field operations.
UNHCR’s Refugee Education Strategy emphasizes the importance of lifelong learning, partnerships, and learning achievement. The Strategy also emphasizes the need to increase access to quality primary, secondary and tertiary education. The most recent refugee education strategy, issued in 2019, positions refugee inclusion within host country national education as a global priority. The tertiary education team supports oversight and management of the global refugee tertiary education scholarship programme (DAFI), advocates to expand other higher education opportunities for refugees worldwide, coordinates with economic inclusion and other UNHCR units to enhance transition to employment and solutions prospects for refugees, and leads the development and implementation of the objective to increase refugee participation in higher education to 15% by the year 2030 (15by30). Integral to the refugee education strategy is the monitoring and successful realization of pledges made by States, NGOs, refugee led organizations, academia and other partners at the Global Refugee Forum (GRF) in 2019.
