GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT INSO
Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing risk management coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO offers registered NGOs a range of free services, including real-time situation monitoring, analytical reporting, humanitarian security-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff mentoring and training.
INSO supports more than 1,000 NGOs in around twenty countries on a daily basis. INSO is based in The Hague (Netherlands), the international city of peace and justice.
INSO COLOMBIA
INSO is about to start its operations in Colombia. INSO plans to open a base in Bogotá and 3 additional offices in the country.
GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
The GIS Officer is responsible for the conception, preparation and production of static and web maps appropriate for INSO information products, and for ensuring the connection between geographic data and the INSO incident database.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify, in collaboration with the Information Management Team, cartographic information needs.
- Identify and access the necessary sources of cartographic information.
- Identify obstacles in the collection, analysis and dissemination of information, and develop appropriate strategies for its improvement.
- Produce and maintain high-quality, security-relevant static and online maps, including security incident mapping, zones of influence and detailed risk maps for key roads and cities.
- Provide GIS information to field missions collecting data for INSO products, including maps and templates.
- Work closely with the Information Manager to ensure that the different maps are accurately and up-to-date linked to the INSO incident database.
- Work alongside the Information team on the migration and operation of the INSO incident database system.
- Design and maintain geospatial databases that guarantee the quality and consistency of information.
- Support in the production of other visual elements, such as graphs, flowcharts and mind maps.
REQUIRED PROFILE
Essential:
- Professional qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cadastral Engineering and Geodesy or in related fields.
- Mastery of Spanish, both written and verbal. Knowledge of English will be valued.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in the NGO field.
- Excellent skills in using QGIS, ArcGIS, field tools and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of programming and scripting languages, such as Python or R.
- Ability to be systematic, proactive, innovative, self-motivated and detail-oriented.
Desirable:
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Work experience with humanitarian organizations, especially NGOs.
- Strong ethics, with the ability to handle confidential data.
- High degree of autonomy.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Place of contract: Bogota DC
Contract: employment, fixed term of twelve months.
Monthly base salary of $4,400,000 COP.
17 working days of annual vacation.
