Equality Insights Lab and Ottawa Muslim Community Services are seeking individuals with data collection/research experience related to gender-based violence and Islamophobia for interviewer/focus group facilitator positions.
The purpose of the project is to improve gender-based violence (GBV) services for at-risk groups, specifically the Ottawa Muslim community. The research will assess GBV risk and protective factors and the intersection of Islamophobic attitudes and behaviors with GBV risk and access/utilization of GBV services among this at-risk group. The goal is to work with the community and with key stakeholders to influence meaningful changes in community health, systems, programs, and policies.
Duties and responsibilities:
- In-person outreach in the community to recruit participants.
- Conduct individual interviews and focus group discussions, ensuring accuracy and completeness and following ethical guidelines and best practices and study protocols.
- Transcribe recordings in a timely manner, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Provide feedback and reports on data collection activities and participant engagement to the GBV Project Manager as needed.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders to ensure cohesive data collection efforts and address any challenges that may arise.
- Work flexible hours days, evening, and weekends.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications and Experience Required from the Enumerator:
- Fluency in both English and Arabic, including reading, writing, and conversational skills, to effectively communicate with participants.
- Proven experience in collecting sensitive data, with a background in research methodologies, particularly in qualitative data collection.
- Knowledge of ethical conduct of research
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
- Experience coordinating logistics monthly, ensuring smooth operation of data collection sessions.
- Familiarity with gender-based violence research, demonstrating understanding and empathy towards affected individuals.
- Knowledge and proficiency in using digital applications and online survey tools for efficient data collection and management.
- An ability to comfortably and respectfully ask questions related to relationships, gender-based violence, and Islamophobia, maintaining a supportive environment for participants.
