PURPOSE OF THE ROL

Lead the mainstreaming of the Gender Transformative Approach in all Plan programs and projects and be responsible for leading the design and supporting the implementation of programs, projects and actions on Sexual and Reproductive Rights, in the development context defined in the Country Strategy. Providing support for the implementation of the Gender and Inclusion policy in the organizational culture in line with regional and global policies and strategies.

The Gender and Sexual and Reproductive Rights Advisory Office will work closely with the Country Representation and in collaboration with the national program team.

ROLE DIMENSIONS

  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR PLAN REPRESENTATION: The person will be responsible for representing Plan International in the spaces, networks, technical tables, as well as partners on gender issues and/or sexual rights and reproductive rights, among other issues related to their role. This will be at the national level and when required also at the territorial, regional and global levels.
  • MEDIA: At the request of the Country Representation, you may be appointed as a spokesperson to the media on gender issues and/or sexual rights and reproductive rights.
  • RESPONSIBILITY IN PROPOSAL FORMULATION: will play a key role in the formulation of new proposals, both in their design and in the relationship with partners and donors.
  • RESPONSIBILITY FOR STRATEGIC PLANNING: The project manager will play a key role in formulating the Country Strategy, annual planning, and project planning. The project manager will ensure that the Gender Transformative Approach and its six elements of Plan International are incorporated into the Country Strategy programs and projects.
  • RESPONSIBILITY IN TRANSMITTING TECHNICAL AND INSTITUTIONAL KNOWLEDGE: will be responsible for training teams from all areas on issues related to gender and/or sexual rights and reproductive rights.

THE PERSON:

Previous experience and knowledge

  • Graduates or professionals in areas related to the specific subject required
  • Extensive demonstrable experience in gender and sexual rights and reproductive rights
  • At least 5 years of experience in advising on issues related to Gender and sexual rights and reproductive rights.

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of key concepts of gender equality and inclusion, girls’ rights and feminist and women’s rights movements at national and regional levels, including:
  • Concepts, theories and sectoral debates on patriarchy, privilege, power relations and the plurality of masculinities throughout the stages of development and their impact on boys, girls and any young person who transgresses traditional “binaries”.
  • Adopting an intersectional approach to gender, age and inclusion.
  • Concepts of social and gender norms, gender socialization, formative research and communication for behavior change.
  • Feminist values, feminist leadership concepts, theories of power and organizational policies and how to apply feminist principles in the evolution of organizational culture and identity.
  • Knowledge of how social movements, especially feminist, women’s rights and LGBTIQ movements, have grown and evolved.
  • United Nations instruments on the Human Rights of girls and women and understanding the “invisibility” of girls’ rights in policy making and data collection by governments and policy makers.
  • Understand the links between gender-based violence, including harmful practices, sexual and reproductive rights and the theory of gender and social norms change, its relevance and application to harmful norms and practices related to sexuality, as well as its practical implications for work targeting our main impact group.
  1. Reasoning ability, understanding to be able to influence others through logical arguments, as well as to lead change through motivation and inspiration.
  2. Ability to propose solutions to different programmatic and contextual scenarios that guarantee quality programmatic implementation.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate theoretical concepts on gender and sexual and reproductive rights issues in simple terms and apply them to practical solutions.
  • High-level communication skills and ability to interact with a range of stakeholders, including government representatives, CSO representatives and community members.
  • Negotiation and influence skills to achieve collective agreements that impact expected results.
  • Facilitation skills to lead a team through the full proposal development cycle.
  • Skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • Facilitation and training skills for the education of adults and children and young people.
  • Excellent command of Spanish, both spoken and written.
  • Mastery of English is highly valued.
