SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, for more than 40 years, has been providing assistance to populations who are victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting vital needs, such as drinking, eating and shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsafe water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI implements through its interventions expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and the promotion of hygiene but also in the essential field of food security and livelihoods. Present in 26 countries, SI teams – 3,200 people in total made up of expatriates, national employees, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.
The mission
The Solidarités International (SI) mission in Chad and Cameroon merged in 2021.
Its coordination is based in Yaoundé. It is made up of members of six departments – programs, SERA, grants, human resources, finance and logistics – and a country director. SI Tchameroun also has three field coordinators (CT).
SI is present in the Lac, Ouaddaï and Sila regions of Chad, in the Far North (EN) of Cameroon, in N’Djamena and Yaoundé. The mission receives humanitarian (CDCS, ECHO, BHA, PRM, UNHCR) and development (AFD, DUE) funds. It is currently carrying out emergency assistance, livelihood strengthening and access to water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) projects. It has been operating in eastern Chad, in response to the Sudanese crisis, since May 2023.
This recruitment notice concerns the position of logistics coordinator.
General objective:
Member of the coordination team and under the hierarchical responsibility of the country director (DP), the logistics coordinator works closely with the program, finance and HR departments, in coordination and in the field.
General objectives of the position:
• Manage the logistics activities of the mission in order to ensure the smooth running of the programs.
• Ensure the implementation and maintenance of IS logistics procedures and tools on the mission and ensure their compliance and proper use; be the guarantor of the proper execution and quality of the purchasing files of the entire mission, in particular via full mastery of the Link software.
• Participate in the definition of the mission strategy, the drafting of project proposals and the sizing of the resources necessary for IS activities.
• Support the DP in the operational management of security.
• Ensure the link between headquarters and the mission for any questions related to logistics.
Main Challenges:
• Support the teams in mastering and popularizing internal procedures.
• Manage the continuous improvement of the logistical dimensions of the mission.
Priorities for the first 2/3 months:
• Support logistics colleagues in mastering the following tools: Link software, logistics budget monitoring and fuel management.
• Support the structuring of the logistics department, in coordination and in the bases.
Security:
• Yaoundé and N’Djamena are generally calm cities. Acts of urban crime are noted in certain neighborhoods and around markets, so it is advisable to be vigilant when traveling.
• Due to the volatile security contexts in SI’s intervention areas in Chad and Cameroon, travel to these areas is subject to specific criteria and conditions.
Training:
Higher education in logistics
Minimum 3 years of experience in the humanitarian sector and in an equivalent position.
Experience and technical skills:
Technical skills
1. Mastery of logistics processes including the procurement procedures of the main donors.
2. Knowledge of logistics procedures related to framework contracts and monetary transfers.
3. Mastery of Link software or equivalent.
Transversal skills
1. Capacity for skills development, including in a functional relationship.
2. Height gain and overall vision of a logistics department to optimize its sizing.
3. Aptitude for travel between different bases.
Languages:
1. Excellent command of French, both spoken and written
2. Operational command of English.
A salaried position: Depending on experience, starting at EUR 2860 gross per month (2600 basic salary + 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly) and a monthly Per Diem of USD 600.
SI also covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate’s home country and the place of assignment.
Breaks: During the mission, a system of alternating between work and leave is set up at the rate of 7 working days every three months (with USD 850 allocated by Solidarités International). In addition to these break periods, there is one additional day of rest per month worked.
Social and medical coverage: Expatriates benefit from insurance that reimburses all health costs (including medical and surgical costs, dental and ophthalmological care, repatriation) and a welfare system including war risks. Vaccination and essential anti-malarial treatment costs are reimbursed.
LIVING CONDITIONS:
• The logistics coordinator will be based in Yaoundé and will travel frequently (approximately once every 4 to 6 weeks) to the mission bases and particularly to N’Djamena.
• Yaoundé is a city known for being pleasant, offering many options for going out (restaurants, bars, sports facilities, cultural venues, etc.). The expatriate community there is large.
• The logistics coordinator benefits from a housing package, under the conditions provided by SI.
