Hours: Full time – 35 hours per week

About the role

Sightsavers Cameroon office are currently recruiting for a Driver and Administrative Assistant to drive employees, visitors, and consultants when necessary and to always ensure the maintenance and safety of all office vehicles, as well as performing clerical duties to support the efficient running of the office.

As the Driver and Administrative Assistant, you will:

  • Ensure employees, visitors and consultants are transported safely to their destination
  • Drive within the laws of Cameroon and with respect for other road users’ pedestrians
  • Ensure the maintenance of Sightsavers vehicles by checking fuel, oil and water daily and refuelling when necessary.
  • Keep vehicles in a clean condition inside and outside.
  • Check tyres, logbooks, tools, etc. and test-drive each vehicle once a week.
  • Undertake routine maintenance of vehicles, including simple repairs.
  • Ensures vehicles are regularly serviced and advise the Administrative Officer when servicing is required and/or when defects/ problems arise.
  • Make sure all vehicles have reflectors, fire extinguishers, first aid box, etc. First aid boxes for the vehicles must be checked regularly to ensure that items used are promptly replenished.
  • Keep a maintenance record of vehicles e.g. replacement of major parts, tyres, batteries, etc.
  • Transact business with the banks on foreign currencies for staff related travels
  • Maintain liaison with officials of immigration and embassies for staff entry visas and renewal of passports and work permits.
  • Assist with the organisation of various office events (seminar, plenaries, meetings, workshops, Away Days etc)

Skills and Experience

As the ideal candidate you will possess a certificate of Education (GCE) ordinary level, have extensive experience as a Driver, and have good administrative experience.

Further requirements include:

  • Experience working for an IGNO/NGO
  • Clean and valid driving licence
  • Availability for emergency work on weekends and public holidays
  • Good command of spoken English/French
