SCOPE OF WORK:

The Senior Manager of Equipment will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive equipment strategy. This role requires expertise in current technologies to identify and recommend the best options for our needs in various markets. The Senior Manager will also collaborate closely with our procurement team to establish productive relationships and ensure optimal procurement processes.

Additionally, this role will define and maintain the principles and key metrics for equipment provision to partners. The Senior Manager will also develop and implement a training program for biomedical engineers to increase and improve partner maintenance and repair capability, thereby extending the life of donated equipment.

This position will work closely with the procurement team, country offices, in-country biomedical engineers, other departments and partners.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and implement equipment strategy, liaising across country, program and procurement teams.
  • Gather information on latest Ophthalmic products, assess new products based on our needs and determine appropriate products.
  • Gather procurement needs from all program areas: tertiary, outreach and primary and ensure they are aligned with the capability maturity model and Partner Road map.
  • Work with the procurement team to identify regional suppliers who can provide installation and ongoing maintenance support. Ensure all purchases include installation support.
  • Ensure that all equipment is properly installed, maintained and serviced in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Improve equipment efficiency by enabling partners to implement a rigorous maintenance program for regular and break down maintenance
  • Implement equipment data management system to track all equipment related data in one place including usage, maintenance, and repair history.
  • Establish a structured biomedical engineer training program and train bio-medical engineers across program geographies and ensure sustainability in partnership with local staff and Tertiary Care L&D Specialist.
  • Work with procurement team to ensure availability of equipment related consumables at all Cure Blindness Project program geographies.
  • Coordinate with the procurement team for relationships with equipment manufactures/suppliers to ensure evaluation of new models/new vendors and ongoing maintenance and service support.
  • Work with the country team to ensure partner’s role in upkeeping of equipment, purchasing of regular consumables required for functioning of equipment and maintenance responsibilities are included in the partnership MOU.
  • Implement equipment maintenance tracker to know the status of equipment and collect data related to usage, maintenance, and repair history.
  • Own annual planning and budget, tracking spending and re-forecasting, key performance indicators achievement and re-forecasting for the equipment program.
  • Work closely with clinical advisors to obtain feedback related to equipment models, functional and maintenance requirements at regular intervals.
  • Support equipment related fundraising proposals and outcome-based donor reporting, including drafting narrative reporting sections, reporting on metrics and liaising with staff and partners to gather reporting updates and stories in partnership with the Development team.
  • Serve as key contact for communications and marketing leading opportunities to elevate the impact of equipment provision and our partnerships externally.
  • Work with policy and advocacy teams to ensure policy hurdles related to supply chain and equipment programs are addressed in partnership with procurement.
  • Develop and maintain metrics related to equipment acquisition, inventory and maintenance and ensure they are up to date in the scorecard in partnership with procurement.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Expertise in ophthalmic equipment; familiarity with key kinds of equipment and suppliers
  • Experience with training others
  • Familiarity with maintenance protocols
  • Demonstrated experience in working with partners, suppliers, internal partners collaboratively and effectively
  • Ability to develop and implement systemic tracking mechanisms
  • Experience working in multi-cultural environments and ability to successfully collaborate with cross functional teams and leaders to drive results
  • Strong organizational, communications, relationship, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver quality products
  • Strong written and spoken English language proficiency
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience with Equipment management in the NGO or eye care setting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Product Development, or similar field. MBA, MPA, and/or management experience preferred.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
