Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical humanitarian association founded in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened: mainly by armed conflict, but also by epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. The eHealth Unit is looking for a Data and Analytics intern
Internship – Data Analyst, eHealth W/M
Mission
The eHealth Unit is comprised of 10 people working transversally between Operations, Medical, and IT departments. We use existing (or development of new tools) to collect, transmit, store, and analyse patient and programmatic activity data that is accurate, meaningful, useful, and timely. The Unit supports the implementation, maintenance, and use of three health information tools: Praxis (application used for data collection at project level), DHIS2 (application used for data storage, data analysis, and data visualization), and Bahmni Electronic Medical Record (centralized platform with all patients administrative and medical information).
These tools provide projects with:
- Timely access to operational medical data
- Support for decision-making processes by improving the quality of information, analysis capacity, and representation of project activities
- Improve data processing, data collection, data management, data quality, and data use
- Centralized location for data storage and archiving
Main Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Health Informatics Specialists, Your responsibilities will encompass broad support to the maintenance and configuration of the systems used for collection and analysis of health-related programmatic activity data. Responsibilities will include:
- Research related to content design, particularly related to the collection and analysis of diagnosis data within routine health information systems
- Review and harmonization of metadata
- Assist with the cleaning and standardization of data
- Support the development of indicators and methods to assess data quality
- Organization of information and documentation, including the maintenance of a master indicator library
- Other tasks as assigned
Interests of the internship
- Discover the workings of a large multinational humanitarian NGO
- Gain knowledge of digital health tools used in humanitarian settings, including working knowledge of the tools themselves and an understanding of the challenges that come with implementing and supporting such tools
- Exercise technical skills by applying them to real world challenges
Profile Required
Education/Experience:
- You have a Master’s degree (or one in progress) in public health, data analysis, or data science (Bac+5)
Skills:
- Foundation in public health, epidemiology, data analysis and/or computer science
- Experience managing, cleaning, and analyzing large data sets
- Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with programming languages such as R, Python, and/or SQL
- Ability and willingness to learn new systems and tools, both with guidance from the team and through self-guided learning
Qualifications:
- Extremely detail oriented
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
- Ability to work independently
- Interest in working with data and technology
Languages: English (C1) – work will be conducted primarily in English
Status: Internship of 3 to 6 months, full time desired. Based in Paris.
Conditions
The renumeration is between 4.35€ and 7.70€ gross per hour depending on the level of study, for internships longer than one month. 1 luncheon voucher per day worked, with a face value of 12€ (60% covered by Médecins Sans Frontières). 2 compensated days off per month . 50% reimbursement of public transport passes.
