Position Description
Job Profile and Scope
CAFOD has a strong history of major donor and philanthropy engagement across England and Wales. This post will be at the heart of the programme; helping to develop, implement and actively promote a high-net-worth individual major donor and philanthropy strategy. You will establish and further expand avenues to secure a high level of giving from existing and new donors and help grow a compelling peer to peer approach to grow support for CAFOD’s mission. You will be part of a thriving major donor team and you will manage a diverse pipeline of prospects and donors, working closely with colleagues on major gifts and philanthropy income streams. You will bring expert major donor knowledge, have experience of soliciting five figure donations and have an ability to develop compelling appeal campaigns to raise both restricted and unrestricted funds.
This post is a permanent post and sits in the Major Gifts and Philanthropy (MGP) section, part of the Supporter Fundraising and Participation Group. You will report to the Major Donor Manager (MDM) and in the interim you may report to the Head of MGP. You will be expected to work closely with other members of the Major Donor, Trust and Foundation and the Corporate Partnership teams. You will also liaise with other fundraising teams and across teams eg Integrated Fundraising and Business Innovation, Finance, Advocacy, Regions, the International Programme as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to Major Donor strategy, plans and income targets
· Contribute towards identifying on major gift giving opportunities which would include developing donor journey and propositions to help achieve annual Major Donor (MD) team targets. 21/22; MD £2.6m and MGP £4.7m
· Identify new funding opportunities with stakeholders and ways of working with influential supporters which will include peer to peer fundraising and working with our senior management team.
· Identify and engage with donor ambassadors and influencers to further the funding reach including where possible working with CAFOD’s Community Participation Managers (CPMs) and Clergy close to CAFOD.
· Develop and contribute to proposals and reports that meet CAFOD’s strategy; working closely with supporter, finance and international teams.
· Prospect research your portfolio of donors and prospects, and work across the team as requested by the team lead.
· Monitor your portfolio, prepare required analysis and data for monthly and quarterly reports as well as contribute to forecast and reforecast planning and report back.
· Analyse and respond to emerging issues and trends.
Donor relationship management
· Develop lasting relationships with donors through devising and implementing online and offline plans with a clear focus on securing general restricted and unrestricted funds.
· Solicit upwards of five Figure donations from CAFOD’s donors for projects and programme themes which would include contributing to writing/ editing donor proposals and reports.
· Working with the MDM and the team, scope out the donor journey as well as the downgrading and upgrading of donors and prospects.
· Develop donor cultivation and stewardship programme with the support of the MDM and liaise with team members across MGP.
· Ensure strong relationships with CAFOD’s individual giving team so that donor plans are complementary and aligned.
· Communicate, thank and report back the work of CAFOD with donors through their preferred channel including overseas visits where appropriate, ensuring the highest standards of donor care.
· Ensure systematic data input and management to ensure information, donor relationships and communications are appropriately recorded in line with organisational systems and processes, and in compliance with GDPR and fundraising best practices.
· Alongside the major donor team develop reports and occasional data analysis to improve the donor programme
· Proactively seek out improved ways or working; particularly digitally and develop existing methodology and processes to meet the ambition of the programme.
As part of the Major Gifts and Philanthropy wider work, contribute and at times lead on successful donor cultivation events and stewardship programme
· Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to implement donor events (face to face and online) as part of the donor cultivation and stewardship plans. This may include event logistics, tracking invitations and responses, completion of event evaluations and co-ordination of timely follow up from events using internal systems to inform reporting, tracking and KPIs.
· Manage your KPIs which will feed into the wider fundraising reporting.
