The ICRC also strives to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening universal humanitarian law and principles.

The delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross ( ICRC ) in Chad is looking for a ( e ) candidate ( e ) for the post below fulfilling the following conditions :

A ( e ) Coordinator / director Communication / Prevention ( H / F ) – N’Djamena

Main responsibilities :

  • Defines the strategic orientation of the communication and, if necessary, prevention activities of the delegation, in collaboration with Management and the other departments ( annual planning process / planning of results ). With the support of corresponding headquarters teams and regional specialists, formulates related guidelines, approaches and programs.
  • Supervises the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programs related to communication and, where appropriate, the prevention of violations of international humanitarian law ( IHL ), which may include: operational communication; community engagement; promotion, integration and implementation of IHL ; capacity building for communication and promotion of the law of the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and joint communication from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement ; public communication; digital communication; interaction with religious circles; information analysis / environmental analysis; public affairs and resource mobilization.
  • Contributes to the analysis of political, security, military, humanitarian and other developments related to the management of the ICRC’s reputation / perception and its operational capacity. Defines, in consultation with the delegation’s management team, the desired overall identity and the key messages of the delegation.
  • Develop networks related to specific humanitarian concerns, acceptance of the mission, strategic objectives and ICRC activities and improvement of its access to people in need. Supports the development of the delegation’s expanded network of contacts in accordance with operational and anchoring objectives.
  • Represents the ICRC to various audiences in accordance with the objectives of the delegation.
  • Acts as a spokesperson to the media.
  • Supervises the development and production of internal and external communication tools / products / publications, including for digital platforms.
  • Advise Management on internal communication issues, if applicable.
  • Is responsible for all matters related to management, capacity building and human resources for the team he / she supervises.
  • Supports communication training and coaching for staff from other departments and sub-structures in the field, if applicable.

Required profile – Knowledge, experience and personal qualities :

  • University diploma or equivalent ( preferably master’s degree ) in a relevant field such as communication, political science, international relations, journalism or law.
  • Have at least eight ( 8 ) years of professional experience in a field related to communication and / or prevention ( inside or outside the ICRC ), including team management and project management experiences.
  • Have a good command of IT tools, online communication tools and social media.
  • Have a very good knowledge of French and English ( written / oral ).
  • Have a sense of confidentiality, teamwork, autonomy and responsibility.
