Job Description
The Human Rights Advisor is a technical position responsible for leading human rights initiatives and activities to improve prevention and protection of human rights and Government of Guatemala (GoG) capacity to protect human rights in Guatemala, including the rights of marginalized communities. Provides technical support in work with national and municipal GOG actors, private sector actors, HRDs, and civil society actors, including reporting impact through presenting tangible monitoring and evaluation data. The HR Advisor is also responsible for work regarding legal mechanisms for human rights protection and prevention of human rights violations, protecting human rights defenders (HRDs), human rights initiatives with the private sector, advocacy, rule of law, access to justice, and working with Guatemalan law schools and vulnerable communities.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading human rights protection by strengthening initiatives with the private sector, national and municipal government institutions, and civil society, including flexible management to ensure successful completion of deliverables and expected results in a fluid implementation environment.
- Provides strategic and technical leadership in program design, reflection, work planning, reporting, and other implementation touchpoints.
- Oversees technical integrity of program deliverables related to human rights, protection of HRDs against retaliation online and offline, and human rights trial monitoring for a wide range of audiences including GOG individuals and entities, the USG donor, HRDs, the private sector, journalists, and civil society
- Ensures technical integrity of participant-facing program materials and donor-facing interim and final reports, related technical deliverables, and briefings to the USG donor and partners
Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Graduate degree in international development, social science, business, law, communication, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience working on international donor-funded programs on human rights, rule of law, judicial independence, and similar topics, preferably with USAID-funded programs.
- Knowledge and experience on gender and social inclusion, including work with vulnerable communities such as Indigenous communities, women, youth, and others.
- Good understanding of human rights focused Guatemalan civil society organizations and networks, HRDs, private sector partners and networks in human rights, journalist organizations and networks, law schools, legal associations, and judicial actors and entities in Guatemala and its development context.
- Solid communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship management skills and experience in building and maintaining relationships and networks with national and municipal government institutions, HRDs, private sector, civil society organizations and networks, development partners and other relevant stakeholders.
- Fluency in Spanish; proficiency in English.

Provides technical support in working with national and municipal GOG actors, private sector actors, HRDs and civil society actors, including the presentation of impact reports through the presentation of tangible monitoring and evaluation data. The Human Rights Advisor is also responsible for work related to legal mechanisms for the protection of human rights and the prevention of human rights violations, the protection of human rights defenders (HRDs), human rights initiatives with the private sector, advocacy, rule of law, access to justice, and working with Guatemalan law schools and vulnerable communities.

- Responsible for leading efforts to strengthen human rights protection with the private sector, national and municipal government institutions and civil society, including flexible management to ensure successful completion of deliverables and expected results in an environment of fluid execution.
- Provides strategic and technical leadership in program design, reflection, work planning, reporting, and other application touchpoints.
- Monitors the technical integrity of human rights-related program outcomes, the protection of human rights defenders from online and offline retaliation, and the monitoring of trials for human rights violations for a wide range of range of audiences, including individuals and entities from the Government of Norway, US Government donors, human rights advocates, the private sector, journalists and civil society.
- Ensures the technical integrity of program materials for participants and interim and final reports for donors, as well as related technical deliverables and briefings for donors and USG partners.
Qualifications:
