Accessibility Expert At Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom

Are You Our Next Accessibility Expert?

Background information

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is seeking a consultant, or ideally a team of consultants, to support us in ensuring our external communications are accessible for people with differing disabilities and challenges, whether they are visual, auditory, dexterity, or otherwise. This shall be done by reviewing our websites (wilpf.org and mywilpf.org), newsletters, print materials, design and style guides, and other outreach materials (i.e. podcasts, videos, webinars).

Following the review and its findings, the consultant/s will draft a short report with recommendations to WILPF on how we can improve the accessibility on our websites and print materials. In addition, the consultant/s will create the content for a chapter in our internal style guide on accessibility (best practices for web, print, and digital communications), as well as conduct two virtual training sessions with WILPF staff members on how to ensure content is accessible for all.

The consultant/s will work closely with WILPF’s communications team.

Objectives

The consultant/s will provide the communications team with the necessary guidance, tools, and resources to make the WILPF website, design and style guides, and other content accessible, taking into account the range of potential barriers to people with disabilities.

Specific results and outputs

The primary outcome of this consultancy is to ensure that WILPF and WILPF staff members are equipped with the knowledge, tools, resources, and assistive technologies needed to ensure our websites, communication tools, and content being developed across the organisation are accessible for people with disabilities and for all audiences.

The consultant is expected to deliver the following outputs:

  • Review of WILPF’s websites (wilpf.org and mywilpf.org), newsletters, print materials, videos (subs, captions, etc.), podcasts, and other outreach materials to provide recommendations related to improvement of accessibility.
  • Create a chapter on accessibility guidance in our internal style guide (audience: WILPF staff members).
  • Conduct two training sessions (1-2 hours each) for WILPF staff members explaining best practices that can be followed to ensure content is accessible.

Work schedule and action plan

The consultation process is expected to run for 12 days at your convenience between 1 December and 22 December 2021 (review, recommendations, content creation) and three days at the end of January 2022 (training sessions). The entire process will span 15 days in total.
