Accountant At Child’s i Foundation

Role: Accountant

Duration of Contract: Three (3) months

Primary Location: Kampala

Job Summary: The Accountant will provide support to the finance department in accomplishment of tasks and activities for the organization on a timely and accurate basis. These include transaction processing and bookkeeping, Statutory Compliance and ensuring internal control effectiveness

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Transactions processing and bookkeeping.

  • To work in conjunction with the Finance team to prepare transactions for payment, ensure that all financial transactions for CiF are accurately posted in the QuickBooks accounting system on a timely and accurate basis, supported by properly kept files of supporting documents. Including but not limited to;
  • Receiving accountabilities & raising Journal Vouchers.
  • Posting petty cash payments.
  • Cross Checking payment vouchers before posting
  • Preparing Journal Vouchers as needed
  • Preparing direct cost allocation Journal vouchers.
  • Preparing donated goods & services Journal voucher.

Statutory Compliance and ensuring internal control effectiveness

  • To work in conjunction with the Finance team members to ensure that the organization’s internal control and policies are complied with and that internal risks are adequately mitigated.
  • Reading and being aware of relevant policy documents and ensuring policies are followed
  • Supporting the monthly asset verification exercise.
  • Monthly filling and remittances of PAYE, WHT, NSSF & LST returns by 15th of the following month
  • Making follow-up with staff advances to ensure timely submission of accountabilities and accuracy.
  • Printing and filing monthly bank statements for all bank accounts held by the Organisation
  • Supplier account reconciliation.

Other

  • Monthly stock counts and reconciliations with Quickbooks system.
  • Updating asset register with new additions.
  • Any other duties as may be required by the finance team members

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or its equivalent
  • Part or completed ACCA/CPA
  • At least three years of work experience in INGO
  • Working knowledge of Quick books accounting software
  • Knowledge in using MS-Office packages, especially Excel, Word and Gmail.
  • Fluent in English, good communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Flexible in approach to tasks and working hours
