Accounting & Administrative Assistant At Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH

Position: Accounting & Administrative Assistant for the projects: Triangular Cooperation, and the NDC-TEC

Place and Schedule: Project office in St. Lucia | 50% for Triangular Cooperation, and 50% for the NDC-TEC Programme

Duration: Nov 2022 until Nov 2023, with possibility for extension

Duties:

  • Seeing that the service in the Projects is provided correctly and in accordance with GIZ financial management and accounting and administrative procedures,
  • Ensuring that tasks are carried out efficiently within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Ensuring timely coordination with the staff of the financial teams of the projects and the GIZ office in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), the country offices in Lima and Peru, the colleagues of the triangular project team in Santiago de Chile (Chile) and the relevant NDC-TEC colleagues in Guyana and Jamaica.
  • Interacting closely with support and administrative staff of the project partner that is INTA, Argentina and governmental agencies in the Eastern Caribbean and keeping GIZ Santo Domingo, Chile and Peru well-informed of developments as necessary
  • Meeting financial planning, monitoring and accounting deadlines
  • Filing documents in reference files or in DMS in line with GIZ’s filing rules

Profile requires

Qualifications:

  • University degree or finalizing her/his studies in Accounting and/or Business Administration
  • And/or
  • Certificate/diploma or comparable qualification from a commercial academy (Accounting and/or Administration)

Professional Experience and required competences

  • At least 2-5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting outstanding/receivable principles
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting software
  • In-depth understanding of financial planning and accounting
  • Broad experience of management and administration

Languages and Applications

  • Very good knowledge of English, basic knowledge of Spanish is an asset but not necessary
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g., MS Office)
  • Good management and organisational skills
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management
