Breakthrough ACTION Liberia is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to lead social and behavior change (SBC) programming in 12 counties. Led by the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP), Breakthrough ACTION Liberia partners include Viamo and ideas42. The vision of the Breakthrough ACTION Liberia project is to deliver effective, high-quality social and behavior change (SBC) activities in Liberia that will result in improved demand and use of health services for malaria; maternal, neonatal, and child health (MNCH); nutrition; family planning/ reproductive health (FP/RH); adolescent health; and water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and engage communities in behaviors to prevent zoonotic and non-zoonotic infections in line with the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA).

Given this, Breakthrough ACTION Liberia is seeking an Intern to support the Finance and Admin Department to implement efficient finance activities within the office.

Estimated duration: 6 months with the potential for renewal based on project objectives and needs.

Key responsibilities: The Intern’s specific duties will Include:

Finance:

  • File monthly documents for reporting and scanning.
  • Sign invoices and authenticate accuracy and compliance and forward to the Finance Officer for payment.
  • Assist in coordinating finance related activities as assigned by the Finance Manager
  • Assist with filing of social security and collect receipts.
  • Request monthly petty cash for COP phone card and office supplies.

Administration:

  • Ensure the conference room is set up and properly arranged for JHU workshops and meetings held in Monrovia.
  • Assist in managing and maintaining office inventory – including tagging assets and conducting physical inventory monthly.
  • Assist with the packaging of field quarterly supplies and liaise with FMs for distribution.
  • Assist with follow-up with vendors on the delivery of goods and print materials.
  • Ensure proper management of the warehouse which includes documenting the movement of goods in and from the warehouse.
  • Ensure that all goods and materials going out are properly documented in the waybill and signed before dispatch.
  • Assist the Finance/Admin team to ensure monthly updating of the stock balance.
  • Work closely with the Administrative Assistant to ensure that invoices for vehicle rental and lodging are submitted to finance promptly for processing.
  • Ensure cleaning service providers are supplied with the necessary materials.

  • Assist with receiving and inspecting procured materials from vendors, and prepared goods receipts for final delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, accounting, economics or its equivalent and or a Senior Student at the University
  • A good team and independent player
  • Very oriented with a strong interest in Finance and Admin
  • Must be willing to learn.
  • Proactive and flexible in working hours.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Computer literate
  • Multi-tasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong attention to detail

Language skills: Must be fluent in English and Liberian local dialects.
