WHO WE ARE
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and at the same time promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational, and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
THE PURPOSE
Under the supervision and with the support of the Finance and Administration Manager in Mubi & Head of Office in BIU, the Administrative Assistant, provides support to the BIU Office in Administrative and other accounting and financial tasks and responsibilities.
YOUR ROLE
- Executes all financial and administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Office or Finance and Administration Manager.
- Prepares and sends accounting documents for monthly closing to the Accountant in Mubi Sub Delegation.
- Ensures that financial supporting documents are produced in accordance with ICRC financial rules (supplier information and stamp, logistics support documents, approvals/signatures, accuracy, completeness, compliance, etc.).
- Manages petty cash and makes all disbursements from it.
- Ensures that all working advances paid out to colleagues are settled within the deadline and with sufficient appropriate documentation.
- Ensures regular payments related to administration activities, such as electricity, water, garbage, office bills, etc.
- Collates staff leave salary advance requests, and overtime compensation requests and transmits them in a timely manner to the Human Resources Service Provider in Mubi SD.
- Provides other administrative support as required for travelers, visitors, suppliers, authorities, landlords, other institutions, etc.
- Carries out all other responsibilities related to ICRC’s Human Resources, Welcome, Premises, Information and Communication Technology, and Information Management departments, Hotel reservation and travel for colleagues who visit the ICRC office in BIU, and so on.
- Supervises domestic staff, including organizing and executing tasks, as well as organizing replacements when absent. Also, assists these employees in accessing benefits to which they are entitled.
- Oversees the work of security agents under the supervision of the Head of Office and/or Finance and Administration Manager.
YOUR PROFILE: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a relevant field
- Previous experience in similar roles with INGOs or similar environments will be valued with an experience of 3 to 5 years.
- Good command of spoken and written English & Hausa
- Very good knowledge in double accounting, Income and expenditure, Balance Sheet Accounting, and Invoice and supplier modules.
- Computer literacy, and Sound knowledge of accounting software
- Applicant must have a valid working permit to work in Nigeria.
