An exciting opportunity has arisen at Tree Aid for an Advocacy Advisor focused on building, implementing and monitoring advocacy strategies and action plans with our country teams. Join Tree Aid as we expand our operations in a rapidly evolving field to further increase our impact and influence across the drylands of Africa. In this critical period in the global fight against the climate and biodiversity crisis, this newly created position will play a key role.
Tree Aid works with people in the drylands of Africa to tackle poverty and the effects of the climate crisis by growing trees, improving people’s incomes, and restoring and protecting land. Led by local people, our projects promote nature-based solutions (NbS) that harnesses biodiversity and ecosystem services to reduce vulnerability and build resilience to climate change. Since 1987, we have grown more than 22 million trees and worked with more than 1.8million people. We currently have operations in 6 countries: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Senegal.
The Advocacy Advisor is a new position that will remotely work within the UK Advocacy Team to coordinate and support the process of creation and implementation of national advocacy strategies and action plans across our countries of operations. The position will build capacity and support our growing in-country teams. The role includes policy analysis, coaching and mentoring, proving strategic and operational training, and coordination and collaboration across our UK and in-country programmes and advocacy teams.
As the Advocacy Advisor, you will:
- Provide trainings, support and host workshops with the advocacy teams in TA countries of work, to develop (i) multi-year national advocacy strategies with clear theory of change and goals and (ii) yearly measurable action plans
- Monitor and provide support to TA in-country teams in the implementation phase of their advocacy plans to ensure delivery and continuous learning and improvement
- Act as a bridge between TA in-country and UK advocacy team to ensure coherence and complementarity of advocacy development and plans (ex: Internal reporting, evidence development, messaging, etc)
- Participate in relevant international and national advocacy events and coalitions
- Support in the organisation of yearly advocacy staff workshops and other relevant advocacy event
You will have demonstrable experience developing advocacy strategies and action plans. With excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work across cultures, languages, and busy workloads with competing priorities, you will be confident in running trainings and workshops both on strategic and operational issues (online and in person).
Inspired by Tree Aid’s mission to alleviate poverty whilst improving the sustainable management and restoration of ecosystems, you will be committed to empowering families in some of the world’s poorest countries to thrive, rather than just survive. We have ambitious plans for the future. Help us to realise them.
