The Latin American and Caribbean Coordinator of Small Producers and Fair Trade Workers (CLAC), is an Association established with legal status in El Salvador, which brings together Small Producer Organizations ( as) (OPP’s) and Workers’ Organizations within Fair Trade. CLAC is organized into “National Coordinators” and “Networks”; The former group CLAC member organizations by country, while the Product Networks group organizations by product regardless of the country in which they are located, and the Workers Network groups worker organizations. ) from different countries.

CLAC’s mission is not only to represent democratically organized organizations, but also to ensure their strengthening and development, also to provide assistance to its associates, to promote their products and values, and to influence social, political and economic bodies. CLAC’s strategic lines of work are: 1) Strengthen CLAC’s organizational sustainability, 2) Promote fair trade, its principles and values, 3) Strengthen and develop our membership, 4) Increase access to existing and new markets, 5 ) Advocate for responsible production, trade and consumption to promote sustainable development, 6) Contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through inclusion and the adoption of good social and environmental practices in our membership.

  • About the Project

Within the framework of the PIP (Productivity Increase Program), the objective of the Fair Trade Banana project in Colombia is to strengthen small banana producers in the region in the implementation of Soil Health programs through the production of bio-products from Multiple Communities of Beneficial Mountain Microorganisms (CMMBM), with the aim of improving their living conditions as a consequence of an increase in the income of producers , a product of the increase in the productivity of their farms.

Small banana producer cooperatives from the Banana Zone in the province of El Magdalena in Colombia would participate in the project, directly benefiting around 450 producers, technicians and managers of these cooperatives.

The project will facilitate the implementation of practices regarding optimization of soil fertility in banana plantations and agricultural diversification

In order to contribute to the achievement of the project objectives, a professional committed to Fair Trade is required to assume the position of Agricultural Technician PIP Project – Colombia .

Efficiently and effectively manage the technical and operational components of the PIP project in Colombia.

  • Purpose and Main Functions of the position

Purpose

Contribute to the empowerment and self-management of the membership

Principal function

Manage the technical and budgetary components of the PIP project efficiently

Collateral coordination functions

Develop and implement technical support to the Cooperatives that participate in the PIP project, in accordance with the work methodology developed by CLAC

Identify the activities necessary for the success of technical support and manage the schedule for its implementation.

Plan and manage the project budget and expenses and ensure the correct use of project funds

Ensure that the quality of the technical support within the PIP project according to the elements established by CLAC (Soil health/suppressive soils, manufacturing of bio-products, etc.)

Carry out follow-up and monitoring visits to the different areas of the project

Document interventions, work methodologies, results and learning and report them regularly to the Sustainable Production Unit.

Develop and maintain fluid communication with the Cooperatives in the project as well as with CLAC work colleagues to ensure good coordination of the work agenda.
