About the position:

This position will work together with the project coordinator in Loreto, Agusan del Sur to improve maternal health outcomes. S/he will serve as the focal person of Americares in the Municipality of Loreto to ensure that all the plans, programs, and activities are set forth in the Municipality.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Project Implementation
  • Conduct an initial assessment to understand the maternal and newborn health needs of the municipality and make recommendation to the project management
  • Facilitate implementation of the project with from the Quality Improvement Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle
  • Evaluate and address the birthing unit’s existing needs to meet Philippine Universal Health Care & PhilHealth standards
  • Ensure conduct of all trainings set in the workplan for Rural Health Unit (RHU) staff, in collaboration with various partners.
  1. Capacity Building to Target Groups for Project Sustainability
  • Coordinate with RHU staff for barangay health workers training for their attendance of pre-, intra-, and post-natal care training
  • Ensure uninterrupted coaching and mentoring activities with midwives, nurses, and barangay health workers
  1. Partnership Building
  • Facilitate the preparation and signing of the project agreement with the LGU
  • Establish good working relation with the RHU staff, DOH representatives and LGU
  • Ongoing engagement and rapport to community chiefs, and local health center coordinators
  • Support barangay health workers to host community organizing, health promotion and education activities for the community.
  • Ensure public health workers conduct home visits and barangay health station visits to offer maternal health services
  • In addition, the Area Coordinator may,
    • Identify best mode of transportation from indigenous barangays to the health centers and increase accessibility these form(s) of transportation.
    • Support creation of culturally sensitive maternity waiting facilities in respect to the local’s culture and traditions
  1. Project Management
  • Prepare a plan and budget for project activities in the area
  • Facilitate the creation of culturally competent health promotion and education materials
  • Complete and submit expense reports in accordance with Americares standards
  • Attend required Americares HQ meetings, technical meetings, and other gatherings. Some meetings may occur in the evening or early morning
  • Collect communication content (e.g. photos, videos, etc.) in accordance with the Americares Marketing Communications policies
  • Submit a monthly, quarterly and annual report based on Americares standard reporting system
  • Ensure that all reporting and documentation are shared on a timely basis with the Country Director
  • Document best practices and impact of project activities to the RHU patients and communities for sharing to the colleague, management and donors
  1. Community Engagement
  • Improve engagement and rapport to community chiefs, and local health center coordinators
  • Support BHW to host community organizing, health promotion and education activities for the community
  • Ensure public health workers conduct home visits and barangay health station visits to offer maternal health service
  1. Others
  • Perform other related tasks that may be assigned from time to time

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • A graduate of a bachelor’s degree in the health science (nursing, midwifery, community health or public health with at least two (2) years experience of maternal health.
  • Strong understanding of cultural competency with the target population.
  • Ability to perform tasks based on the project’s Theory of Change (TOC) and objectives.
  • Computer literacy: MS Office, Zoom, Teams and other LMS related resources etc.
  • Effective command of English and Filipino language. Knowledge of Cebuano / Bisaya Language is a plus.

  • Works independently with minimum supervision
