Armenia: Deputy Chief of Party At Internews Network

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Internews seeks a Deputy Chief of Party for an upcoming USAID-funded media development project focused on strengthening the integrity of the information space in Armenia. The project will enhance the professional and organizational capacity of media outlets to strengthen their editorial independence and increase their reach and impact across Armenian society through quality content. The project will provide catalytic support to improve the financial viability of editorially independent media and help institutionalize a funding source for public interest media; advance media literacy efforts to empower citizens and civic and political leaders to consume and engage with information critically and understand the role of ethical media in holding the government accountable.

The Deputy Chief of Party will support the Chief of Party in all aspects of program management, at a strategic and an operational level. They will help ensure timely delivery of activities, quality control, and the overall responsiveness of technical assistance. The Deputy Chief of Party may be required to act as acting Chief of Party from time to time and will also take on delegated Chief of Party responsibilities as required. The Deputy Chief of Party will support the Chief of Party in liaising with USAID on technical matters and in programs management and operations. The position will be based in Yerevan, Armenia.

LOGISTICS

Internews plans to open a country office in Armenia. Ultimately, this role will be based in Yerevan, Armenia. This position is eligible for relocation assistance.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

  • Cultivate relationships with media, media service and advocacy organizations and associations, institutions of media analysis and criticism to strengthen relationships with a wide array of stakeholder organizations and ensure that implementation is responsive to the needs of partners and beneficiaries.
  • Work with Chief of Party, program staff and partners, and technical experts to design and execute innovative strategies and activities to achieve program goal, objectives, and intended impact and outcomes.
  • Oversee the implementation of project activities, as well as project monitoring and evaluation to ensure effective implementation and to measure project impact as designated by the Chief of Party.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of project reports, workplans, M&E plans, and communications materials.
  • Communicate closely with Internews HQ and the Chief of Party to ensure coordination across all activities and compliance with USAID and internal policies and regulations.
  • Support Chief of Party and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable local laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Support Chief of Party in maintaining regular communication and coordination with USAID-mission, other donors, and implementers.
  • Serve as Acting Chief of Party in the Chief of Party’s absence.
  • Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values .

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

Required

  • Three or more years of experience as a Deputy Chief of Party, Program Lead on multi-component programs, or similar position with a strong reputation for developing excellent collaborative working relationships with local counterparts, international organizations, and donors.
  • Experience working with organizations in information space or advocacy in Armenia and/or region.
  • Deep understanding of the local and regional informational ecosystem and/or media sector.
  • Experience with USAID- and/or US government-funded programs required.
  • A successful track record in designing, managing, evaluating, and communicating about donor-funded media and civil society projects and proven ability to develop and monitor work plans, monitoring and evaluation plans, and program reports.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with and manage a diverse staff.
  • Proven ability to creatively problem-solve and provide ethical management.
  • Fluency in English language is required.
  • Fluency in Armenian language preferred.
