In accordance with its Horizon 2030 strategy, the action of the French Red Cross internationally is deployed around two main areas of intervention, namely health and disaster risk management, placing at the heart of its action supporting the development of sister National Societies, whether in the two areas of expertise mentioned above or in more organizational aspects (HR management, financial autonomy, logistics management, etc.). The CRF is present internationally in 21 countries alongside National Host Societies, mainly in French-speaking Africa, the Middle East and in the 3 oceans area (Pacific, Indian and Atlantic) via its Regional Intervention Platforms (PIR ).

Presentation of the National Society Development Support Department (SDSN)

The SDSN department was created in March 2023 to support the implementation of the Horizon 2030 strategy, and more particularly to manage the implementation of the SDSN 2023-2025 strategy.

The department carries out the following missions:

  • Support Operations (geographic desks and country missions) in the development and implementation of SDSN programming.
  • Strengthen the SDSN culture within DOI teams and the FIU as a whole.
  • Develop and promote the SDSN positioning of the FIU within the Movement and externally.
  • Mobilize strategic partnerships and strengthen internal synergies for the development and implementation of the SDSN 2023 – 2025 strategy.

The department is currently made up of 3 people:

  • A department manager…
  • A technical referent.
  • A person responsible for mobilizing expertise.

General objective of the internship

Reporting to the Department Manager, your objective will be to contribute to the consolidation and dissemination of the FIU’s SDSN expertise and projects.

Missions during the internship

1. Contribute to the consolidation of the FIU’s SDSN projects/initiatives

  • Proposal for a dashboard / mapping of SDSN projects or initiatives carried out by the FIU
  • Support for data collection and integration into the source database.
  • Support for the weighting of projects according to their SDSN dimension.
  • Contribution to the development of a framework for operations to support the capitalization of SDSN actions, in connection with the SERA deposit.

2. Contribute to the dissemination of the FIU’s SDSN approach, expertise and actions

  • Contribution to the revision of the SDSN part of the FIU website.
  • Contribution to the establishment and then updating of the SDSN page of the “International Expertises” website.
  • Updated the IFRC GO platform by integrating the FIU SDSN projects.
  • Layout and update of the presentation brochure of the FIU’s 2023-2025 approach to SDSN and possibly development of a video capsule.
  • Development of presentation materials / promotion of the CRF’s SDSN 2023 and 2024 projects, integrating existing dissemination possibilities (e.g.: radio broadcast, inter’actions broadcast, in connection with the CRF’s priority expertise in terms of SDSN.
  • Support for the development of documents presenting the SDSN approach for the volunteer network, and materials promoting the initiatives carried out by the national network in terms of SDSN.
  • Writing articles on the intranet.
  • Support for developing the visibility of key projects and initiatives on social networks.

Hierarchical and functional links
The intern will work under the supervision of the Head of the SDSN Department and in collaboration with the various colleagues of the SDSN Department, the Communication Manager of International Action, the person responsible for disseminating DOI expertise, the operational Departments and DOI supports.

Practical information related to the position

  • Location: Montrouge
  • Duration of the internship: 6 months.
  • Mission date: April/May 2024 to September/October 2024
  • Mandatory internship agreement
  • Around €640/month for 35 hours per week – 50% reimbursement of transport costs – access to the company restaurant with employer contribution to the cost of the meal.

  • Writing skills and an appetite for writing.
  • Creative and curious mind.
  • Motivation for international humanitarian issues.
  • Rigor.
  • Mastery of IT tools (working on Google workspace and canvas environment).
  • Knowledge of humanitarian issues.
  • Good written level in English is a plus.
  • Humanitarian experience is a plus.
