General objective of the position:

Supports the Medical Coordinator in delegated responsibilities and tasks. Among other things, supports the Medical Coordinator and collaborates in the definition, direction and coordination of the entire medical area of ​​the mission, according to MSF standards, policies, protocols and values, in order to ensure the quality of medical care for the population in need and to improve their general health and living conditions. Fully assumes the responsibilities of the Medical Coordinator in case of absence, including communication within the management team and in the medical department.

Some key activities:

  • Supports the Medical Coordinator by defining, monitoring and updating the medical content of MSF’s policy and annual plan. Identifies health needs and the implementation of health information systems through exploratory missions. Develops, monitors and reviews project proposals. Determines the resources needed to cover the medical and humanitarian needs of the population in need. This will be done by ensuring a link with the community, safeguarding medical ethics and the quality of medical programming (i.e. relevance, efficacy, safety, accessibility and adequacy of MSF’s medical interventions, as well as “best practices” in clinical management of patients).
  • At the request of the Medical Coordinator, he/she can represent MSF to third parties to address medical issues. He/she ensures a good public image and alignment with the interests of the mission:
  • Ensures frequent contact with local authorities and institutions, with other non-governmental organizations in the country and with other MSF departments, for better coordination in the implementation of health programs and projects.
  • Will negotiate with authorities when necessary.

Requirements

  • Training: Degree/Diploma in Medicine/Nursing.
  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in relevant medical program/project coordination positions, in MSF or other humanitarian organizations
  • At least 1 year of international work experience.
  • Experience in rural settings/indigenous communities and low-resource health structures.
  • Knowledge of tropical medicine and public health.
  • Knowledge of computing (Word, Excel and Internet), autonomy and resourcefulness in computing and technology
  • Languages: Spanish is essential. Knowledge of English C1 is essential and a third language such as French is desirable.
