Overview of position
Under the overall supervision of the National Fleet Officer and under the direct supervision of the Boat Captain in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate will be responsible in ensuring all aspects of the voyage and vessel such as the safe navigation of the vessel, cleanliness and seaworthiness, safe handling of all cargo and ensuring proper procedures are followed.
Role objectives
- Assist in the operation of our client marine vessels with top priority given to safety of passengers and equipment.
- Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned boat to ensure seaworthiness of the boats. This includes daily check of parts to avoid sudden breakdown.
- Ensure mission related injury to boat crew or damage to boat or threat to security will be documented with an incident report completed on the same day as the incident and notification to the fleet manager.
- Ensure that the boat is used only for official/authorised business, as advised by the supervisor. Make sure that the daily log sheet is prepared, and a monthly report is prepared summarising statistics linked to mileage, fuel consumption etc. for the relevant boat.
- Follow the Captains’ instructions for consistent safety, maintenance & cleanliness of vessels.
- Make sure that the vehicle always has full tank prior departure for field trips.
- Ensure the regular cleaning of boats and docks, trash in boats or on docks should be picked up and put in a trash can.
- Strictly adhere to our client’s policies and procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment.
- Undertake duty travel when necessary.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Key competencies
EDUCATION
- High school degree/certificate with minimum three years of relevant working experience or a university degree.
EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of boat operation, rules and regulations
- Skills in minor boat repair
- Knowledge of cargo storage, vessel maintenance and navigation.
- Experience in the use of radio, email, telephone, and other applications
SKILLS
- Ability to lift heavy objects as well as be able to load and unload them from the boat
- Strong swimming skills
- Must be organized and have strong eye for details
