About Chain of Hope
Chain of Hope is an international NGO founded in 1994. Its mission is to strengthen health systems to give everyone, especially children, the same chances of survival and development. Helping the most marginalized children is more than a moral obligation; it is an essential condition for achieving the United Nations 2030 goals for children’s health and well-being.
We operate in 27 countries with a global approach, focused on children but also on mothers and disadvantaged communities:
- Prevention and screening from a very early age, particularly within the framework of school health programmes.
- Care and surgery, to meet the most urgent needs of children and their mothers.
- Training and skills transfer to local teams thanks to our international network of experts in all areas of surgery.
- Construction and equipment of hospital structures adapted to local needs.
BURKINA FASO mission context
La Chaîne de l’Espoir has been present in Burkina Faso since 2018, it supports the Burkinabe health system mainly in the prevention and management of maxillofacial pathologies co-financed by the AFD, the development of the management of cardiovascular pathologies and loco-regional anesthesia. A new project aimed at improving the provision of surgical care in the Eastern region will be launched in early 2025.
The humanitarian situation in Burkina Faso is of great concern, with a deterioration since 2014, due to the political and security crisis that has led to massive population displacement, as well as disruptions in access to basic services such as health and education. The combination of these factors has exacerbated humanitarian needs in the country, with millions of people requiring humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs.
