Business Development, Communication & Advocacy Manager at Plan International

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child, but this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination and it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for – and respond to – crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 80 years and are now active in more than 70 countries.

The Opportunity

As the Business Development, Communication & Advocacy Manager in Central African Republic, you will lead Plan International CAR’s efforts to achieve country fundraising targets and support the Country Office to develop strong relationships with National Organisations (NOs) and donors. You will also identify funding opportunities and lead the production of successful grant proposals in coordination with programme colleagues.

In this role you will support the programme team with the development of influencing goals, whilst also coordinating, advising on and implementing the Communication and Advocacy strategies to contribute to Plan International becoming a recognized voice for Child Protection. You will provide leadership in reinforcing Plan International’s brand, reputation and public relations and also support technically and build the capacity of the country team to establish a strong external and internal communication function.

The Individual

We are seeking to appoint a proactive individual with experience of being in a managerial position in the development sector, NGO, or other grant-funded organisation. You will have a demonstrated track record of writing project proposals and obtaining grant funding for development and humanitarian response projects from institutional donors.

You will have experience in key influencing strategies such as advocacy, lobbying, movement building, or policy development, and you will also have experience of developing and implementing communication strategies that bring about significant policy and/or practice change.

To be successful in this role you will be a team builder who has the ability to work creatively and strategically under pressure and when faced with competing demands. You will have clear and effective communication skills that build relationships in order to influence others, and you will also be confident in taking initiative and exploring new opportunities.
