Purpose:
Develop a series of games and corresponding illustrations for Epidemic Control for Volunteers (ECV) training materials
BACKGROUND
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has long focused on helping communities prepare and respond to health emergencies through its 192 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies. When communities are engaged and trained in epidemic preparedness and response, they become vital contributors to finding and stopping outbreaks, saving lives, restoring services, reducing negative impacts, speeding recovery and building resilience.
The Epidemic Control for Volunteers (ECV) Manual and Toolkit were originally published in 2008. The guidelines help National Societies volunteers understand how diseases spread, identify the symptoms of epidemic-prone illnesses, community-level actions to prevent spread, and provides educational illustrations for talking with community members. The updated ECV Manual and Toolkit guidelines build upon the original content, including an additional section on zoonotic diseases and the affiliated latest evidence-based interventions. As part of the revision process a series of games for training purposes is planned to complement the new toolkit and resources.
The Epidemic Control for Volunteers Training Manual and Toolkit are available here as a reference to the materials and style.
