The India Forest-PLUS 3.0 Activity, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs – Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest for a Capacity Building and training Specialist. This position will be located in the main Forest-PLUS 3.0 office in New Delhi, India.
Forest-PLUS 3.0 is a three-year program of USAID that will be implemented by Tetra Tech in India from Dec 2023 to Dec 2026. The purpose of the program is to provide technical assistance that supports the Government of India to strengthen sustainable, inclusive and data-driven management of forest landscapes. Forest-PLUS 3.0 will build on, scale up, and institutionalize at a national level the solutions developed and piloted by Forest-PLUS 2.0, which was implemented from Dec 2018 to Dec 2023, to support India’s forest-based climate mitigation commitments by: (1) improving the sustainable management and eco-restoration of forest landscapes through technological innovations; and (2) strengthening the institutional and enabling environment for inclusive and resilient forest ecosystems.
Position Description: The Capacity Building and Training Specialist will support all capacity building activities related to the program’s objectives. The Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that capacity building methodologies and activities are carried out consistently and contribute to achievement of expected results and will also ensure that training activities are well planned, organized and delivered. The Capacity Building and Training Specialist will be based at the Delhi office and will be required to travel to states within India.
Responsibilities:
* Develop an overall capacity building and training plan for the three-year program period and annual training plans for inclusion in the annual work plans.
* Revise and refine training modules including eLearning courses on ecosystem focused forest management, gender and forestry, and technology-based tools in forestry developed under Forest-PLUS 2.0 program.
* Liaise with forestry training institutions and other educational institutions to co-develop courses on forestry and technology based on their requirements for inclusion in their curriculum.
* Promote experiential learning through applied training and field demonstrations, exchanges, and learning events.
* Use technology and develop innovative methods to organize capacity building programs extensively for forest officials covering multiple states.
* Organize study tours, exposure visits and exchange programs within and outside India with a focus on learning and replication.
* Facilitate or co-facilitate training and capacity building activities as needed and ensure that training programs are inclusive.
* Prepare reports for all training programs with the support of technical leads and maintain all training data and reports as required by USAID.
* Develop training of trainers (ToT) programs to build a cadre of resource persons withing the different stakeholder groups.
* Contribute to internal and external knowledge management and learning related to Forest-PLUS 3.0 capacity building.
* Conduct surveys to assess the outcomes and impact of the capacity building activities carried out in the program.
Qualifications:
* Post-graduate degree in a relevant field, such as forestry, agriculture, rural development or other natural resource management (NRM) and development related discipline.
* Minimum of 8 years’ relevant professional experience in NRM capacity building and training.
* Demonstrated experience implementing NRM training activities with local and national organizations required. Experience with State Forest Departments preferred.
* Demonstrated institutional capacity building and training skills at community and national levels.
* Demonstrated understanding and experience of using technology to achieve capacity building objectives.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with all levels and functions within the company.
* Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
* Willing to regularly visit project states.
* Must also be able to foster supportive working relationship among all staff.
* Strong computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office package, especially Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Word.
* Fluency in English, both written and spoken is required.
* Highly organized individual able to pay close attention to detail.
* Ability to work as a member of a team of professionals in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
