Australia Assists
Australia Assists is an Australian Government program that deploys skilled humanitarian specialists to support multilateral agencies, governments, civil society and communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and conflict. Australia Assists aims to save lives, alleviate suffering, maintain human dignity in the wake of crises, and strengthen preparedness for future emergencies.
Tetra Tech International Development manage the Australia Assists program on behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Key responsibilities
- Conduct culturally and contextually competent capacity needs assessments to establish foundations for long-term, respectful, and productive partnerships.
- Co-develop Capacity Development Plans with success indicators, ensuring alignment with MEL frameworks and informing future deployments, training, and targeted technical assistance.
- Foster a culture of learning through the development of a knowledge hub, including creating content, identifying leading practices, and promoting learning materials.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive program for accredited and non-accredited training, communities of practice, and events to facilitate knowledge sharing and professional connections among host organisations.
- Work closely with Host Organisations to integrate cross-cutting priorities such as GEDSI, climate change, and localisation into program goals and standards.
- Support the Capacity Strengthening Manager in embedding a culture of learning across the roster and program team, enhancing the overall impact of the program.
Selection criteria
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Assistance, or a related field.
- Experience: Extensive experience in developing capacity needs assessments and capacity-strengthening activities. Strong expertise in strategic planning and leadership for program strategy development and execution. Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships, negotiation, and networking with various stakeholders.
- Knowledge and Skills: Advanced strategic advisory skills to ensure program activities align with humanitarian principles, regional frameworks, and DFAT priorities. High-level written communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse cultures and disciplines. Strong analytical skills to evaluate program effectiveness, identify improvement areas, and make data-driven decisions. Familiarity with cross-cutting priorities, including GEDSI, climate change, and localisation, and the ability to adapt strategies to meet emerging needs in humanitarian contexts.
- Personal Attributes: A strong focus on achieving measurable outcomes and impact, with a commitment to program effectiveness and efficiency. Sensitivity to diverse cultural contexts and an understanding of the influence of cultural factors on program activities. Ability to foster a collaborative and team-oriented work environment, promoting shared responsibility and achievement.
