WHAT DO WE DO

SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid association which, for over 40 years, has been supporting

relief to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters by meeting vital needs, drinking, eating, shelter. Particularly committed to the fight against diseases linked to unsanitary water, the leading cause of death in the world, SI implements through its interventions expertise in the field of access to drinking water, sanitation and the promotion of hygiene but also in the essential field of food security and livelihoods. Present in around twenty countries, SI teams – 2000 people in total made up of expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, a few volunteers, etc. – intervene with professionalism and commitment while respecting cultures.

THE MISSION

  • The Carbon and Environmental Footprint Assistant works at the headquarters of Solidarités International (in Paris), under the supervision of the Environment and Climate Technical Officer, in collaboration with all IS departments and all offices in the countries of intervention (Africa, Middle East, Asia, Latin America, Europe).
  • He/she will mainly contribute to the calculation of the carbon footprint of at least one of the countries where Solidarités International operates.
  • He/she will ensure the capitalization of past/current/future initiatives of the organization, in favor of reducing the carbon footprint of IS.

DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFER

The missions detailed below are likely to evolve according to the operational needs of Solidarités International, and will be adapted as much as possible to the interests and technical expertise of the Carbon and Environmental Footprint Assistant.

Until November 2024, the Carbon and Environmental Footprint Assistant will also receive technical support from an external consulting firm (Wavestone).

  • Support for the finalization of the calculation of the carbon footprint of the offices and activities of Solidarités International in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC):
    • Monitoring the progress of data collection by focal points in the DRC
    • Technical support for the teams involved
    • Review of the validity of the data collected
  • Capitalization on the methodology deployed in the DRC:
    • Review of the relevance of identifying focal points for data collection
    • Collection of feedback from focal points on the use of the carbon footprint calculation tool (blockages, limits, possible technical difficulties)
    • Analysis of the time taken to calculate the carbon footprint in order to define standard forecast schedules for other countries where Solidarités International operates
  • Support for the formulation of technical feedback to Global Climate Initiatives (GCI) following the use of their carbon footprint calculation tool by teams present in the DRC
  • Research and capitalization on other available calculation tools and methodologies and those most suited to humanitarian NGOs.
  • Participation in the development of the roadmap for reducing the carbon footprint of Solidarités International:
  • According to the overall planning of the carbon footprint of Solidarités International, support for the launch of the calculation exercise with one or more other countries of intervention (to be confirmed).
  • Participation in discussions on the development of consideration of the environmental footprint of humanitarian activities (documentary research on possible methodologies).
  • At the request of the Environment and Climate Technical Officer, participation in inter-NGO meetings on the themes of carbon and environmental footprints, ensuring note-taking and internal dissemination of key elements.
  • Write a final end-of-internship report on the status of the situation and recommendations.

PROFILE

  • In training at Bac +4/5 level – courses in environment, sustainable development, natural risks, renewable energies, etc.
  • Ability to analyze and organize, to manage priorities.
  • Computer skills essential (Office Pack).
  • A specialization in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) would be an asset
  • Fluent in French, good level of English (reading and writing).

TERMS

– Six (06) month internship based in Clichy la Garenne (92)

– Compensation of €3.90/hour

– Restaurant vouchers (60%) covered by the association and transport covered at 50%
