Background:

CARE provides cross-border humanitarian assistance in Syria, and refugee assistance within southern Turkey to people affected by the Syrian crisis. In response to CARE increased Syrian response cross-border humanitarian works the program is now endeavoring to undertake an inside NW Syria direct implementation to address humanitarian needs, enhance the quality of our programming and maximum response capacity and support to CARE’s partners. We are looking for a trustworthy, dynamic, innovative, and resourceful person to join the Area office in the capacity of Area Recreational Activity facilitator to be based in Jarablus, northern Aleppo, Syria.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the protection officer, the Recreational activities facilitator will be sharing in planning and implementing psychosocial support activities (recreational activities) appropriate to the age and gender of the beneficiaries, working to improve their psychosocial condition and increasing their flexibility through recreational activities sessions.

He/she is contributing in preparing and conducting protection needs assessments, facilitating recreational sessions, discovering cases that need referrals or direct support and facilitating their access to available services in coordination with case workers and the line manager.

The person is expected to have strong interpersonal skills, understanding, cooperative, organized, a high ability to work within a team to take initiative and skills in influencing to support policy and advocacy.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Job Responsibility #1 Project Implementation and Coordination 80%

  • Implementation of psychological support, recreational activities and psychological first aid for the displaced and the host community.
  • Participation in identifying community events and suggesting and selecting appropriate activities for each occasion
  • Prepare and maintain the supplies and needs for each session.
  • Motivating and giving the beneficiaries a sense of responsibility regarding the information learned while participating in the program and ensuring an appropriate environment for the sessions.
  • Under the management of the Protection Officer, conduct participatory activities to collect feedback and opinions of beneficiaries on the quality and impact of activities and raise their suggestions for new activities.
  • Identification of community members including women, men, boys and girls who require specialized or non-specialized protection services in order to refer them to services and provide direct or indirect support to them according to the referral protocol
  • Participate in conducting various forms of questionnaires and assessments such as protection monitoring and rapid protection assessments to identify persons who have concerns or those at risk, when requested.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the code of conduct, humanitarian principles, minimum standards for gender-based violence, and minimum standards for child protection.
  • Adhere to CARE’s policies, goals, principles and values

Job Responsibility #2 Planning, Reporting, coordination, and Data Management: 20%

  • Develop activity plans according to the area of responsibility identified by his/her supervisor and based on the interest and needs of the beneficiaries.
  • Contribute to the development of plans for the conducted sessions in the camps, schools and centers of beneficiaries’ gathering.
  • Provide regular oral and written reports regarding ongoing activities, data collected, identified/monitored cases to the Protection Officer.
  • Establish and maintain positive and effective relationships with intended beneficiaries, community members and all other key actors.
  • The job duties and responsibilities as described above are not comprehensive and he/she may be required to perform additional tasks in the future as needed and according to the project structure and in proportion to experience.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Required

  • University degree in psychological counseling, social sciences, art, humanitarian studies or any other related field/ Equivalent to Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.

Desired

  • Project Management qualification (PMD, PMP, PRINCE2)

Experience

Required

  • Experience in conducting and evaluating PSS sessions within a humanitarian context.
  • Good experience in writing activity reports.
  • Good experience in administrative work, planning and organization.
  • Previous work experience in a civil society organization/NGOs/INGOs.
  • High professional ability to communicate with beneficiaries and community members.
  • Experience in the rules sending awareness messages.
  • Work experience in the international humanitarian world, operating in emergencies.
  • Working in multi-cultural context

Technical Skills

Required

  • Highly skilled in organizing large-scale, fast-paced, responsive field programs.
  • Advanced professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, and knowledge of IT system.
  • Excellent proven communication skills, including working with multiple stakeholder groups, including children.

  • Fluent in Arabic and highly desired to have advanced English language skills.
