The International Republican Institute’s Center for Global Impact (the Center) is designed to help IRI learn, innovate, and lead in global democratic development programming. Comprised of experts specializing in a range of technical areas and program staff who oversee global and cross-cutting initiatives, the Center leads the Institute’s efforts to contribute to thought leadership, respond to emerging global challenges and trends, facilitate global initiatives, and serve as an incubator for new ideas and cutting-edge approaches.

The Center Associate is an entry level position for program work at IRI and provides administrative and programmatic support for current and developing programs. The Associate will support the Center’s Youth & Inclusion team, primarily on the day-to-day processes for the Generation Democracy program. Launched in 2015, Generation Democracy is a global network of more than 300 youth across 80 countries. Through the network, young changemakers can share ideas and best practices, as well as access skills-building workshops, webinars and professional development opportunities to help advance positive change in their communities and countries.

Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in political science, international relations or related field.
  • 0-1 year of professional work experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required, with an emphasis on a strong understanding of how to use Microsoft Excel for data management.
  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work under pressure and take initiative to develop creative solutions to complex problems in a short amount of time.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a collaborative team in a hybrid work environment.
  • Ability to commute as needed to the Washington, D.C. headquarters office.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Support the implementation of the Generation Democracy program and associated grant activities including communicating with Network members across the world on a daily basis.
  • Serve as point of contact for procurement solicitations and compile submitted materials to facilitate the evaluation process. This includes collecting data and submitting contract and subaward agreements and payments for internal and external approval. The Program Associate will also track and follow up on pending procurement and funder requests and approvals with the appropriate internal contacts.
  • Support the Program Officer in maintaining budget trackers based on expected and planned expenses and contribute to budgets for new proposals.
  • Maintain the Generation Democracy member database and facilitate new membership processes.
  • Create and maintain data management systems related to tracking the results of the Generation Democracy program.
  • Willingness and ability to learn innovative, participatory data collection methods to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of youth-focused civic and political participation programs.
  • Maintain and demonstrate an understanding of funder and IRI policies and procedures related to grant compliance and oversight.
  • Contribute to semi-annual, final and other relevant reports for funders.
  • Maintain internal project site and stored documents.
  • Provide logistical support for virtual and in-person meetings and events, including the Generation Democracy Global Summit and Assembly, amongst other possible events.
  • Contribute to weekly updates on program activities for internal and external partners.
  • Analyze and help ensure interventions are sensitive to issues of inclusion of groups who are subject to different vulnerabilities, particularly youth populations.
  • Actively foster a workplace that enables work-life balance and embraces diverse identities, backgrounds and experiences; engage with colleagues and partners in a respectful, welcoming manner; and demonstrate integrity by modeling IRI’s values.
  • Travel as needed for program oversight and implementation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
